@$!# The Snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok im in va, and it just snowed. I left work early so i could get home before the snow started heavy. Well, i guess i was too late.... i had to drive on horrible roads with slush and snow and the 8 sucked so bad. I love my 8, but I almost had a head on with an oncoming truck because I was sliding all over the road. Anyone experience this? F@$@#in rear wheel sucks in the snow. DSC didn't work all that well either. And I know how to drive in the snow because i used to live in Mass, so that's not the problem. I almost destroyed my 8 tonight.

Summer tires? if so, shame on you. (I thought I could get away with it last year on the first snow. 1/4 of snow is enough to send you into the ditch!)

Dear Mr.Hick,
You are an idiot.
Yeah, rear wheel drive, THAT'S the problem.
Sell the '8 and get a Civic - FWD, so you won't die.

Your choices Yankee...

1) Winter tires ... ugly!
2) Winter car ... may I suggest an old Suby
3) Stay home!

I drove my truck today ... only 1-2 inches so far.

Yankee,
we "hicks" from the south know not to drive with summer tires in the snow. Please sell your 8 and buy a rear wheel sedan with chains on the tires or leave your 8 in the garage and drive a 4-wheel drive.

Do you realize that your 8 comes with performance tires and NOT snow tires? Yea sure, blame your car and DSC.

I have a set of LM22 Blizzaks on another set of stock rims

unless you are less than 5ft away in bright light you could not tell the difference in appearance between them and the stock tires

even then it is almost too hard to tell

it is all about compounds buddy, NOT tread design, that is a factor but minimal

^What's with the "ugly" comment? I've been getting a TON of positive comments on my 17" wheels/w snow tires since putting them on just three weeks ago. hmm...

But yeah, you cannot drive ANY car (whether front-, rear-, or all-wheel drive) in the snow with "High Performance Summer Tires". Take a look at the tread pattern on the tires to see why... Not enough depth or width to the spaces between tread blocks to allow anything short of water to pass through. Get some all-seasons or snow tires, and you'll do fine.

i live in NY and last sunday it was official, winter is here. i been lookin for a used wrx to drive on these winter days. i dont want my RX8 to catch a cold or something. besides last year expirience, the temperature limit for the rx8 is about 45 degrees anything lower the car runs sluggish. my bro got a eagle talon tsi (which was my old car before the 8) and i been beggin him to sell it since that car is the best lookin/handling car/ cheaper than a 12000 subaru wrx.

Talking

I know it is a diffrent car and I am now in Sunny Florida but, when i Lived in Pittsburgh I had Z28s all year round and I used to get a good set of studded snow tires and I would put 50 lbs of lead shot about each wheel well in the trunk space. So, with those mods my Zs' never had a problem and the torque and HP were way over the 8's just my .02

in this case flaming is justified from the ridiculous topic. tires are at fault, not the car. this is another one of hundreds of dumb threads on here that say the 8 sucks in the snow, when a proper search would show it's the stock tires.

sheesh.

so delete the stupid thread then , or just educate the guy without looking like an *** yourself.
not many cars come with summer only tires in the price range of the x. there may be a lot of people that just don't know any better.

i'm not speaking to anyone in particular. just anyone that finds it necessary to get abusive when they dont' like something someone says. is this the country we live in today ?

seems to be. over on miata.net they are older, and much more civil.

I want to start a petition that anyone who creates a thread whining about the 8's "horrible snow performance" when they're driving with summer tires get's an automatic 1 week ban.

Anyone with me?

A lot of sports (or sporty) cars come ONLY with summer/performance tires. Example: 350Z, G35C, S2000, Mustang.

What the heck are you talking about?
