Worried about my 05'

Well I have only had my 05' MT since Saturday and I have read the issues of rough idle, etc. At first I thought the rattle noise I was hearing was something like a loose heat shield or something, but now Im starting to think its detonation.

I bought the car used only 23k miles, the car was originally purchased at the dealer, has very view rock chips, no dings, could be passed up for a new car; Im worried about having issues left and right with it living at the dealer.

I just got the latest flash, havent been able to gauge the gas mileage yet, but I am just over 1/4 of a tank used and only driven 61 miles.

Are there that many people on here having issues with their 8? I love the car, but wondering if I should make a move and return it???

Sorry to tell you that reliability on 8's are below average, you'll get lots of rattles and noises on them that will bug the hell outta you..i know they do to me when i hear them...just take it to the dealership and have them take a look at it, 1/2 the time they are able to fix the rattles and noises. as for gas mileage, they've been numerous amounts of threads about how bad it is...just another "if you love the car, you'll learn to deal with it" kinda deal.

Its not interior rattles at all. Everything inside is fine. The rattle seems to be coming from underneath the car. I initially thought it was a loose heatshield, I had a similar issue on my RSX.

Now after reading articles on engine replacements I think it may be detonation. Ill see if I can get a video and link it later today. If detonation is the issue I will be going back to the dealer and telling them I dont want the car. I love the car, but I just think it is rediculous to have problems not even 3 days after purchase.

Damn that sucks if that is the case.

Vash: is it a knock or a rattle? Have them do a compression test if you think it's the engine.

Can you take a car back after 3 days in TX? (in CA, you can't...)

Vash: Your milage seems about right. 61miles just below 1/4 tank is right on par with mine. I get just above 17mpg consistently. The one thing that does kill milage on the 8 is idling in traffic. Do all you can to avoid this to keep your milage up.
Is the rattle mainly around 4grand? or is it more of the old valve pinging sound around 6-7grand? If its the lower, its carbon buidup in the inlet system. You need to run it harder. If its pinging, the dealer will fix it with a new you-know-what.

+1 for 60 miles to the first quarter tank being accurate. (I've tracked the last 25,000 miles for mpg)

I thought it was 14 days. Its a rattle at idle. I do notice when sitting at lights I can feel it in the shifter and other vibrations that the idle seems to pulse, no change in RPMs though.

about returning it, i know in CT you have a 3 day reneg period on ANY contract you make. you will probably have to be stern with the dealer and very insistant if you want to get what you want, or else he will send you back like a dog with it's tail between its legs. good luck

you guys are lucky. There is a ZERO cooling off period in California. If you sign on the dotted line for a car, you cannot change your mind. I don't care if it's 30 seconds later and the ink hasn't dried yet...

(yes, there ARE exceptions but it requires courts, attorneys, etc)

I dont mind the gas mileage that much. Its a new car to me, fun to drive, so I expected to do a little more driving than usual. Kinda like getting a new toy, play with it alot at first. =)

Well hopefully its just a motor mount and nothing serious. I was suspecting a motor mount issue yesterday because here and there the tranny acts like first isnt lined up or something. No grinding or anything, goes through the gears like butter.

About the motor mounts, after having them replaced has anyone had any further issues with them?

I had mine replaced and it was SMOOOOOOOTH. It's starting to come back (not nearly as bad) so I think I'm going to have them check to make sure the other mount isn't having issues or that it's not sagging.

I believe the right side mount is usually the culprit.

Coming back? Wow, kinda weak if Mazda cant make a reliable motor mount. I would take the vibration from a solid motor mount if needed.

not that it isn't a reliable motor mount, just simply that only one was changed the first time. Maybe the other one didn't show signs before and now it's having some issues.

Not a huge issue really, I'm sure it'll get taken care of with the newer brackets.

Oh ok, cool. Wonder if there is anything I could say to have them just replace them all. Hope it has weakened any tranny mounts...

From another thread here is the same noise I am having.
