The driver side window on my 04' Rx8 gets stuck about half way down. If i grab it and pull, it will move again. It also sounds like grinding gears when the window closes all the way.

I had the same issue if a Mazda CX-7 I owned previously. So I guess it's a common problem? Or am I unlucky...?

If you had this same problem, and it was the plastic gear, where did you purchase it from?

 

I wouldn't replace the gear, just get the whole window regulator assembly. Used or new. The individual parts aren't really sold separately unless someone goes to the trouble of pulling it out for you.

 

I have not yet taken the door apart.

From what I found on Google, it would be the Window regulator that houses the gear that normally goes bad, correct?

About a minute and a half of annoying music, but it's pretty simple to replace the gear alone.
