Drivers side power window.......

Ok.....who ever is willing to help I would greatly appreciate it. Power window on drivers side.......goes down half way......stops. ..makes a sound like a freakin lawn mower......gets stuck....goes up with a bit of help from my hand pulling it up.....when it's totally closed if I hold the button it sounds like a whole bunch of rattling in the door.
Regulator or something off the track? Would like to give it a shot myself. Some smuck wanted to charge me 400. I won't repeat what I said. I see a regulator is about $70. I guess the logical thing would be to open the door up and take a look, but does anyone recognize the rattling sound I said it makes. Never fixed this on a car before.....I believe I could do it. Am I mistaken?
Thanks people!

You should be able to handle it if you are at a mechanically inclined and have even a modicum of patience as you will need both. The problem you describe sounds suspiciously like a bad drive gear on the power window motor and probably the matching gear on the regulator. The lawn mower-like noise sounds like it might be gear clash or, worse still, a flat spot on one or both gears. The only way to be certain is to pull the door panel and, with a flashlite, look inside and see if you can see the point where regulator meets motor. You might have to pull the motor to see the gear but cross your fingers before you start and you might get lucky and be able to see from a lower opening behind the door panel. Just be prepared with a roll of masking tape and mark any wires you have to disconnect to avoid mixing them up when you reassemble it.

++ ^^

I would suggest finding the instructions for getting the door apart. There are links the the manuals on this forum. the "BODY" one will tell you how to get it apart. I am not where I can easily find it, but I think there is a link in the Congrats thread below.

Here is a link on how to remove the door panels. Good luck!

Gears missing teeth

Had this same issue. Take off the panel, disconnect the motor from the door, take a flat head and pry the motor open and more than likely you'll see that some teeth have broken off the gears. But the only thing is, mazda doesn't sell the gears seperately. I was pretty irate that they wanted me to pay $100-$200 for a motor, when all I just needed a a little plastic gear. Even the junk yards are expensive. Mazpart seems decent.
