does it stutter, is it a steady idle just lowering? we need more information on what your doing besides turning the car on and backing up...

miles?
the car warm or cold?
only in reverse?

well. Sounds like it may need to warm up more? How soon after you turn it on are you backing up? 5 seconds? 10? 30?

Also, how much lower on the rpms? got a number? does it only happen when backing up? or just idle altogether?

is ur e-brake off when backing? seen it before.....

if it's just at idle prob time to clean TB, MAF and possibly change coils/plugs if it's been awhile

When starting my 8 after sitting all night, it takes a few minutes for the idling to level off around 800. Prior to that it bounces between 800 and 1500 while warming up.

When reversing, I find that I do need to give the car more gas than normal.

the car runs at a higher rpm when it's cold because it dumps more fuel to help atomize more fuel so it willl start and also helps warm up the cat/o2 sensors quicker...
