What octane gas do you use ?

Looking into buying my first RX8. I owned an RX7 when they first came out in '79.
I have read the 8 uses regular unleaded ? Is this what most of you use ?
Any pinging with the 87 octane ?
Thanks.

the RENESIS has 10:1 compression, the owner's manual RECOMMENDS using premium for best performance, and that is what I use

the 8 CAN use 87 if necessary, the ECU will delay timing to prevent detonation, but it will result in reduced performance.

The book says:

Your Mazda will perform best with fuel listed in the table:

Premium unleaded fuel --- 91 [(R+M)/2 method] or above (96 RON or above)

You may use a regular unleaded fuel with Octane Rating from 87 to 90 (91 to 95 RON) but this will slightly reduce performance.

Fuel with a rating lower then 87 octane (91 RON) could cause the emissions control system to lose effectiveness. It could also cause engine knocking and serious engine damage.
(Goes on to say you can use up to 10% ethanol)

I use 91 all the time. Just because I want every ounce of performance I can get.

^^yea im saying theres no way it could actually decrease performance or anything right(sounds like a stupid question) but i mean the readjustment of the ecu and cz to a different octane and the temp conditions?

so? let it adjust and see what happens, that's why you put it on the dyno in the first place, to see how the car responds to different settings right?
