It is hard to explain without hearing it in person but I am hearing what sounds like something came loose in the cat or the muffler. I noticed at a drive through window one day because of the echo off the wall. It only happens when the rpm's wind down to around 2000 to 1500. Sounds kind of like a ball is bouncing around somewhere in the exhaust pipe. Or if I am mistaken it could be just too much fuel coming through that is not burned off which is known to make noises in the exhaust. I am a knew to rotary so I would appreciate some feedback if anyone has suggestions.

i'm somewhat knew to rotaries but only because i'm not real good with engines but i owned an rx7 before my rx8.

i just noticed a sound from my car tonight. its in the same rpm range but its more like a crazy rattle. i also noticed on my way home that the car was bogged way down and it would hardly accelerate and it also stalls when it does this. this is the second time i noticed but the first time it just went away after i reved it alot (i thought my catalytic converter had clogged). now i'm thinking it is something in the exhaust system causing some screwed up bac pressure for me. hope that helps some...

 

Sounds like the cat is failing/failed.

 

Hey jstiebar, I had the same problem a few weeks ago with the bogging down and stalling and it was the coils gone bad. You might just have one thats bad but all of mine were. Has the check engine light came on yet?

 

I was thinking that it might be the cat on my car actually but I have not had any power loss yet.

i have something that may or may not be similar. as the revs climb, precisely at 3500 there's a light ringing. funny thing is, when i had my fd (even after i put on a new cat), i had the exact same thing! and both cars were yellow! and both felt like they came from similar locations. i always just thought it was some loose exhaust shield or something. next time i have my car jacked up good, i'll take a closer look

yeah i started my own thread to take care of my problem. i thought about the coils but the catilytic converter just seemed more likely to me (no idea why i really don't know **** about engines haha). anyway i'm positive it was my cat now, because after my drive home tonight and i got down on the ground and looked at my cat and it was glowing red slightly. thats the sign for me. try checking that after you drive a while, if no one suggested that yet.
