seafoam is an engine cleaner used to clear out carbon build up in the motor

flooded.

it sounds like the previous owner of the car never really took cared of it.

You might wanna try the deflood it. manual tells ya how.

after you deflood it, bring it in to dealership and tell them your car has been flooded. have them update the PCM and replace the cat(where applicable)

seriously, I live in NY I never really flood my car ... -_-

I wonder how ppl can flood their 8

Okay......here's what I would do, there are several methods, but I'm going to tell you what I did to start a fellow members car.
Oh........you didn't say if Auto or Manual. If manual, you could pull start it with another car.............be in second at around 18mph and let the clutch out till it starts. Then push that clutch in and don't let it stall.

Now.........what we did.
1.) Pull the plugs and get them absolutely dry. we used some compressed air to aid in that.

2.) With the plugs out, remove the fuel relay(in the fuse box under the hood).

3.) You may need another battery for the following steps as it tends to wear down the battery quickly.

4.) Crank the engine in short bursts with the throttle to the floor and fuel realy out. Do this for no more than 10 seconds at a time. Letting it rest for 15 seconds inbetween.

5.) Do this until no smoke, oil, and/or gas comes out of the plug holes. Obviously watch and wipe off any that does drip out and get the threads as well. When you think you see none, do it at least two more times for good measure. Think we did a total of 8-10 times, this will depend on how flooded.

6.) Re-install the DRY plugs and check that they are hooked up right.

7.) Have someone stand at the front of the car with fuel relay in hand and orientated for quick insertion......but do not insert.

8.) Crank the car, and when it starts, have that person install the fuel relay real quick. Don't let it stall and once it will idle on it's own.....go take it for a spirited drive(after warm-up).

Don't be super shocked if it doesn't work the first time. We had to re-pull the plugs, re-dry them, re-crank until dry, and then put them back in for another try. Fired right up then.

There are other ways to de-flood, but the above worked for us. Give the above a try and if not, then you can proceed to the others.

You can download a manual for free by going to www.mazdausa.com under the owners section and registering! I recommend you do that so you can learn about this car. The de-flood procedure in there is different than what I wrote and some people have had luck with what it says. But again..............there are several methods including squirting a small amount of washer fluid into the maintainance ports. You'll have to search for that if nothing else works, because I haven't used it.

Bet, you don't shut it off cold again!

To answer your other question(s):
Yes, it you continue to flood the engine by shutting it off cold, you won't hurt the engine, but you can kiss your CAT goodbye after a few times.
Plugs..............well, brown is okay at this point(that's carbon build-up)...........but they must be dry when you try to deflood. Car needs to be run hard(after warm up) on a regular basis.

Put the below in your glovebox, inform the wife of this and then take it out and place on the dash ANYTIME you leave the car with someone! It's not the one I like, but it will do.

I have an 05..........if you want the manual, PM me with your E-mail address and I'll send it to you. It in pdf file format.

I just edited my above post, so you might want to re-read it.

And in your spare time, read some of the stickies on this site........lots of good info!

Good luck!

I've never flooded mine.............in over three years of ownership.............so there!

Oh.....Seafoam is an agent that is used to clean carbon out of the engine.
It's basically a cleaner, but that isn't needed for you at this point in time.

Fixed. You going piston on us Laythor?

Devil, gratz on getting it fired back up. Flooding is the one issue that is the easiest to avoid. There are other more minor ones that could give you trouble...like oil

Spend alot of time on here reading the stickies, and you will avoid a ton of heartache and trouble in the future

Yeehaw................glad you got it going!

What was your exact method.......walk us through it. I ask because if what I wrote helped, or even if you deviated from it, it will be good info to help out the next person.

BTW............I sent the 05 manual to your E-mail you provided.

i went thru your first post step by step. it didn't crank fully the first time but i redid the process and it fired up the second time. how ever i am haveing a bit trouble starting it it startes but it take a longgggggg crank for it to fire and spoil the engine. any thoughts???? i think the plugs need changed the milage state 50689 and i beleive these are the original plugs so i will change those out on friday and update then (03 april 2009) i don't get paid till then and plugs are f*#kin pricey. well if anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

Thanks SteathTL.............I saw you looking in this thread earlier.
Yeah, change them very soon. You might flood again if not carerful due to whatever is causing the slow start. You have an 05, so you should have an updated starter. Did you weaken the battery during this de-flood and you just need to run it for 20 minutes to re-charge?
Might want to think about the coils or at the same time as the plugs.
Do a search on spark plugs, I just got a set from Mazmart(a vendor here) for about $86.00 including shipping. That's a lot better than you will get at a dealer for sure!

Hold on...............I edit it a minute with that link!

Here it is...........this is just one of your choices:
