Weird sound after 6,000 rpm???

Hey,

Today I was driving to an 8 meet, as I was driving onto the highway in 3rd gear I accelerated passed 6,000 rpm and then this wierd noise accured. Sounds like a foil bag flapping very fast out the window. This happens in 2nd, and 3rd gear after I got to duplicated it a few times. I just put in a new K&N drop in filter a week ago.

Recent service:
K&N drop in filter.
Changed my spark plugs a little over a month and a half ago.
Also, drive short distances alot, if this helps.

I tried searching the forum for this problem, maybe I am looking for the wrong thing but if any one heard of this problem let me know.

Thanks,
Adam

PING!

Get the AP from MM to solve your problem.

Use premium only. Don't use ARCO or that ethonol mix crap.

How did AP solved the problem anyway ?

I never had any ping or whatever. Im just kinda curious (too lazy to read the AP thread right now, tired from a whole day of partying)

I used to use Premium only. For the last 8-10 tanks I've been using Midgrade gas. Same amount of premix and stuff. Car works, so no problem

Just make sure you use some brand name gas. Not your local el-cheapo discounted gas station.

AP = AccessPort - Is a device that lets you to flash your ECU's data with your customized one, Thats just one of the device's function. Read more for details.

MM = MazdaManiac - he is selling the AP RX-8 version at this time. he is a great help and if u buy it, you can ask him for certain maps. Turbo or not.

When you had the problem did you have any change in driving? Wasn't constantly, or random???

I think that is the sound mine has been making too. Sounds kind of like the engine has flem in its throat. It went away after I changed my oil and shifted from WalMart Premium gas to Shell Premium gas. I shouldn't have altered two things at once, but the problem went away. Problem came back yesteday. I bought gas at WalMart the day before - the first time I had done that since switching to Shell. I guess have to go back to buying the more expensive stuff.

BTW, my sound comes on before 6k (probably around 3.5k), but it is much more noticeable at 6k.
