Transmission trouble...sticking in 6th gear
Got my '8 like 10 days ago and already having trouble . Its a 2005 6SPD with only 36K miles. Anyway...on to my problem(s).
Drove to work this morning without any problems. Car was also fine at lunch. Leaving work, the car got stuck in 6th gear. I pulled over, stopped, and was able to get it out with some finicking and a little force. I continued to drive on and it got stuck once more but came out easier when the car slowed down.
Took the car out again tonight to try and get a better sense of the problem. I noticed that I have to drive a little while, ~0.5 miles, while staying in 6th to get it stuck. It will come out a little while after clutching in and fiddling with the shifter. Some times it slips out fine, other times require some force. Once I had to stop, restart the car, and let the clutch out a little bit to get it free.
I also noticed a slight transmission noise in 4th and 6th during the whole drive. 5th and 6th started feeling more difficult to access towards the end of the drive, at which point I elected to park the car. I listened closely to the car at idle and noticed that there is some unusually audible input shaft noise when the clutch is let out. The noise goes away when I move the shift lever towards 1st/2nd (still in neutral) and get slightly higher in pitch when the lever is pushed towards 5th/6th.
Some more observations: 6th was always a little harder to get into than the others. Went for a drive in my old car, a '94 celica, to get it warmed up for use tomorrow and I really noticed just how hard the RX8 shifting is. It, frankly, seems unreasonably difficult (notchy, high force) in all gears when compared to the Celica.
The clutch is new (<500 miles) and works well. In addition to not stalling in gear, its functionality is further evidenced by the change in input shaft noise at idle when it is actuated.
Could this be a case of needing new tranny fluid? Or am I up sh#% creek?

Pulled the shifter and everything looks okay.
The dogs will grind if I depress the clutch and I deliberately put it 'between gears'. Is this indicative of anything?
Some insight here would really help out. I'd like to try and figure out what is wrong before getting a new transmission or deciding to do a rebuild. What am I looking at for a new/used or rebuild on the tranny? I've got the swap quoted at $430 labor btw.
What are good sources for used RX8 transmissions?
