Transmission delay from park/neutral to drive.

Transmission delay from park/neutral to drive.

My '04 RX-8 takes about one to two seconds when shifting from park or neutral into drive, when it does, it seems to lurch pretty hard. It has recently been doing this. Has anyone else's auto done this and/or know what may be causing it?
