Temporary engine failure?

Ok so I was driving back to school tonight (about a 5 hour drive), cruise set at 77 when my car started slowing down. I turned off the cruise and tried accelerating but nothing happened (at this point, my oil light, coolant light, and battery light all came on along with my CEL which had been on for a while). So i pulled onto the side of the interstate, put the car in neutral and tried revving, but still nothing. A few minutes later, I turned the car on and it ran fine for about 5 miles until i went through the same thing all over again. I was able to get the car started again and made it the remaining hour of the drive with no problems. The car is an 04 sport mt with 98,5XX miles on it, and I haven't experienced any such problems since I acquired the car at 65,000 miles. I know I'm due for new coils/plugs, but does anyone have any idea what's going on?

+1, however when you get the codes read I'm willing to bet you have a bad kitty.

Edit: I just reread your post. Was your gas tank almost empty? Next time you have problems, put fresh gas in the tank and see if the problem goes away immediately. If so, your fuel pump is heating up and going bad. The cool gas will make it work again.

Good idea not to drive with a steady CEL either unless you know it is something non-destructive (like a small Evap leak code from the gas cap not being on snug). Blinking CEL usually just means misfire.

Get the codes read and we'll see what the next chapter in the story might be.
