Passenger side replaced under warranty a month ago; car has 40k miles on it. They also replaced both front headlights because of a film that was on the inside of the lenses.
|
Ole Spiff: how did they find out about the film? Was it part of a bulletin?
|
69,000 miles on our 04. Extended warranty will not cover it even though it's a known issue on the 04's.

Odd....I just had both tailights replaced under warranty. The service guy never even blinked...yep, you got water there (heavy on driver's side, very light on the other). Replace!
Second time for the driver's side. '04 with 40K |

Katchoo. You are still under the Factory warranty.
We got the Total Care Mazda Extension Protection Plan. Terms and Conditions Sec E Para 8d states Brightmetal, sheetmetal, bumpers, oranamentation moldings, carpet, upholstery, paint, exhaust, brake drums, struts, shocks, battery, battery cables, lenses, light bulbs, sealed beams, glass, wheel covers, wheels, interior trim, throttle body assy, man clutch compnenets, weatherstripping. What ticks me off is that it is a known issue and a TSB was sent out in 04 about the tail lights problem. I could get them replaced for $600 and some change though if I wanted. :cussing: |
:Eyecrazy: had both headlights replaced(wro)both tail lights replaced and the left rear drivers side taillight replaced for a second time due to condensation again(no trunk issues or bad fitting)
one good size bug in the right rear don't know how it got there but i'll let him ride there untill it fails to keep water or condensation out.got 33,ooo + no other problems so far but i think someone on thr forum said they are to redesign the rear tailamps or change there vender because of these issues hope the dealer takes care of the problem it's a defect not a fault! :spank: |

Tail light H2O
Mine is out of warranty. Removed the unit, applied silicone sealant to the seams, reinstalled and now no problems. 45 minutes of my time and no expense. (Already had silicone...house caulk) Avoided hours driving to the dealer, discussing with the dealer and waiting for it to be replaced.
Sometimes it takes more effort, money and time to get these things done thru the dealer. |
i would charge the little bug rent but you know what they say about getting the bugs out ?
he most likely would take me to court and prove i made him/her homeless .ha ha! |
my dealer said shinka tail lights were a bit different - not sure if that is true - saw people asking about that one page 3 I think - I had both fixed - the one with the trunk keyhole is having same issue again - worse this time - now I see it actually fill with water instead of just condensation - I am waiting on parts - will have recall done when they arrive...

Just found water in my passenger-side taillight, but it's no longer under warranty. Driver's side was replaced last summer under warranty. Things like this piss me off - known problem, but warranty expired.

The four year standard warranty doesn't apply to this?

khoney, the extension to 60,000 miles doesn't help either, right? That extension is power-train only, not bumper-to-bumper, right? |
i have mosquitos and a lot of water in passanger side tail lite and also drivers side head light has conddensation while the passenger side headlite has a film lke something was spilled on the inside of the housing and dried. im taking it in to the dealer tmr and they said that they are just going to replace all of the light housings, no questions asked.

You realize, of course, that in France, Tail Light Water is considered a fine fragrance. Women like to splash it on before going out.
|
i beilieve the phrase you are thinking is "toilet water"
|
Oops, you're right! Never mind.

FYI...I just took my car in for the most recent recall and mentioned my tail light condensation. They called me back about 2 hours later to not only tell me that my car was ready to go, but also that they replaced 1 tail light and have the second one on order. SWEET!
P.S. If you have LED lights make sure they put the LEDs back in...I have to go back and pick them up. |
Back in college when I had a Mazda 323 that collected water in the taillights, I just drilled a drainage hole.
Just a thought. -Kabong |

So it doesn't look like there's an official TSB for replacing the tail light assembly? That specific TSB is only for 2004 models that were damaged/cracked by using the wrong solvent, not from "general use". |

FYI, there is also another service bulletin called "INTERFERENCE BETWEEN TRUNK, REAR COMBINATION LAMPS AND/OR REAR BUMPER" that identifies yet another possible cause of damage to the tail light fixture. |
