It's the airpump.

Turns on during cold start up to blow air into the exhaust to warm up the cat quicker.

It's normal.

You've been on this board for 4 years? Have you never read a sticky?

stickies are the threads at the top of each section that say "Sticky"

I think your just more attuned to it so you notice it more. Can't imagine it's anything to worry about.

They will eventually go bad/wear out. That is likely what's happening with yours. Mazmart is a good place to get another, or the FS section of the forum.
