I took it out to get gas, and on the way back home I got on it at about 60 it cut power and the engine light flasshed then stopped. It felt like a rev limiter, but I wasn't even close to the red line. Does any one know what is wrong with my car?

Was the engine warm? iirc mazda tech designed the ecu to not allow the engine to do anything self destructive (ie: rev too high while cold)

or just a missfire

 

was this in 3rd gear? because as said before the engine will cut fuel early (6k rpm's) if it is cold. in 3rd gear mph is rpm/100, so 60mph = 6000rpms. I doubt it was a misfire, they dont feel like rev limiters.

 

I think it was "cold" but not sure. I took it out later after letting it sit with the engine running for 20 min. No light or power loss, so I think that was the problem.

 

if omp misses it will instantly go into "fail safe" (iirc) I am sure the code was stored, find out or else
