Struggling to Start

Hey everyone! Recently my 8 has had a tough time starting up. Not just in the mornings, but anytime I start her- I turn the key in the ignition and the engine turns over a bit and tries to start and then it makes a kind of slipping/squeaky noise before it finally catches. Is this a loose belt? The car runs fine once I get it started, but it just struggles a bit on starting. I haven't had it NOT start yet, but I'm afraid that's going to happen next and that would suck. We just had a heat wave in So Cal....could this cause the problem? It used to start immediately when i would turn the key.

Any help is appreciated!

My dealer already looked at it when the engine recall came out earlier this year, and mine wasn't affected by that. This just happened recently...after our heat wave. I drive it every day, but not far (about 10miles a day).

thanks! I'm gonna check my oil in the morning to make sure it's not something stupid like low oil, and then I'll go to the dealer on Saturday.

Thanks!

Battery is the first thing to check along with terminals.

How old is the battery?

I highly doubt you're going to get a response from nsnell.

lights dimming sounds like a battery.
any warning lights on the dash?

take it to Autozone, they can test the battery and startery

Gonna take mine for a service this week -- it's overdue and I know the mechanic from my dealer, so he'll go the extra mile for me.

I experienced the same issues recently after the heat wave here in Socal.

It was definitely the battery. I have a replacement being shipped to me. Dealer wanted to charge me $160 installed - I said...no thanks!

It can be 150 bucks for a large battery on a V8!
