mine does the same thing. I thought i read somewhere that it is "how mazda intended it" aka the fuel maps taper off a bit at the higher rpm range so you dont go blowing the motor doing stupid ****.

Assuming it is the fuel map, the S1 owners can use the Accessport. But the cause is just speculation based on what I have been reading. I would love for some of the experts to chime in on this one.

Coils

I ended up taking my 8 to the dealer they swapped in new plugs and coil packs... Now she runs fine

To me it does not see plug and coil related, as i removed all of them checked them, all worked fine. There is a power loss at this as well, it is not just a noise
