Steering wheel mind of its own???!!!!!!!

Major issues with my 04 auto rx8,,, power steering seems to be acting up especially on start up.... it seems to be really tight on one side and loose on the other. I read to see what was going on and they said to clean the connectors and check them.. I thought that would solve the problem but it has not... today (a couple of months later) when i was driving the car there was no power steering on the right side and when i am stopped at a light the steering wheel starts to spin and move back and forth uncontrollably. i got out of the car with it in park and realized the wheels were going from side to side it will eventually stop but that is sketchy to think that it could happen while going 70 on a tollway. I called mazda and they said i needed a new power steering motor and not to drive it at all.

I know how mazda just tries to get $ out of me and since i read about mazda trying to replace the whole system in other cars with issues similar to this i am needing a second opinion to see if you all have ever seen this before about the wheel going back and forth..

There are no lights on in the dash and to me it seems like and electrical gremlin
Any info would help
thanks!!!

thanks!!!
I experienced this twice. Fing scarey. I seem to have fixed my problem by replacing the the plug near the over flow bottle. And cleaning all the other connections. Been trouble free for a few months now.

It's just a "generic" 3 prong plug I spliced in to replace the old one. Think I got it off eBay.
