Starting Problems Even AFTER Upgraded Starter...

I just recently replaced my old start with an upgraded starter (N3Z2) and it worked great for the first week. However, soon after that I got into an accident (stupid deer) and was without my 8 for about 3 weeks. I just got it back a few days ago, and now I am having trouble starting my car after it is warm again.

Any other ideas as to why I am having starting problems?

There are many things that affect your starting. If you are noticing slow cranking then you may want to look at your battery condition and your terminals and other connections. According to how many miles are on the car, you may have compression issues. How good are your spark plugs and your coils?

The thing to identify is what is deficient in your starting? Does it just crank for a long time before 'catching' or is it cranking slowly?

I had the put in a new battery also when they replaced my starter so it shouldn't be my battery. I have a 2004 RX-8 with around 41,000 miles on it. I had the spark plugs and coils replaced near the end of last year. Once warm, if I try to start it a few minutes after I turn my car off, it will crank and then eventually just stop cranking and it won't catch at all. I need to watch around 20-30 minutes before I can go start it again.

When you say it will stop 'cranking' do you mean stop 'turning over' or won't come to life. If you are hearing your starter spinning your engine but it doesn't want to start then the car is most likely flooding (Fuel flooding) which is when there is excessive fuel in the chamber that is not being ignited.

The best thing to do would be to take it to an expert Mazda shop or dealer and have them access what is deficient because one thing can compound another. You could have battery terminal issues causing slow cranking causing flooding for example. You could have a battery that is new but improperly charged. You could have compression issues. The latest computer flash from Mazda works to prevent a flood type condition if this is the issue at all.

It will crank but eventually just stop cranking and it won't turn over or anything, feels like it just stops wanting to work.

Alright thank you for the help. I was trying to see if I could figure it out without taking it to a Mazda shop but I guess that is where I have to go.

I got my Coils done at a local Mazda Dealer. I am guessing they used the OEM Mazda Coils. And what is Rev B?
