My manual trans rx8 (2004) doesnt seem to crank . Battery is basically new ( 2 weeks) . about 60km to take it for a road worthiness check, it passed then I went to park and pay for my certificate, when I went to start it, it wouldnt crank . I was with my brother and he pushed while I did a manual push start and the car sang its wonderful tunes. Drove it back 60km and it suddenly stopped working . It wont start so we pray and push and change gears and it starts again! However now there is a weird issue where the RPMs flicker to zero and then back up to the speed . I manage to drop him home and get back to my place where I have tried reseating the battery terminal and relays however it still doesnt seem to crank at all. When you turn the ignitions there are multiple click and all that happen in the engine bay, one in the fuze box . Any ideas?

Just try to get it started for now and see what happens.
Like I said, if it sounds like it's stumbling starting, you're close.

Hold the pedal down the first few times to cut off the fuel.
Let up and try.
If it stumbles, try again with the pedal up...

Better to starve it at first with the pedal down to wash out any excess fuel.

Don't push it and burn up your starter.
Patience.

You were right about the patient part. After so long I finally got it started. Starts normally now so thanks. Now to install that upgraded n3r3 starter that my 04 had so this doesn't happen again when it's 20 Below again

I remember long ago when I first got my 04 I would turn the key and lights would turn on the dash but no crank. Some dude that was working on The IHOP I parked at said it was a bad starter since teeth wears out. So he lent me a Hammer and said hit the starter. I did and it started. He said just get a new starter installed and yep in the meantime while waiting on the new starter I would hit the starter and it fired up. When the new starter got installed I never had that issue again. Well until years later when the starter gave out lol

I figured it out. The clutch pedal safety sensor was not being pressed because the spacer that was placed there by the previous owner broke off . I made a ceramic one to replace it and viola . starts like a boss

Thanks for the update.
I'm glad I could help.

Get a battery tender/maintainer for the extreme cold or extended parking.
Parasitic draws on 8s suck a lot of juice while parked.
