My manual trans rx8 (2004) doesnt seem to crank . Battery is basically new ( 2 weeks) . about 60km to take it for a road worthiness check, it passed then I went to park and pay for my certificate, when I went to start it, it wouldnt crank . I was with my brother and he pushed while I did a manual push start and the car sang its wonderful tunes. Drove it back 60km and it suddenly stopped working . It wont start so we pray and push and change gears and it starts again! However now there is a weird issue where the RPMs flicker to zero and then back up to the speed . I manage to drop him home and get back to my place where I have tried reseating the battery terminal and relays however it still doesnt seem to crank at all. When you turn the ignitions there are multiple click and all that happen in the engine bay, one in the fuze box . Any ideas?

Like I said, if it sounds like it's stumbling starting, you're close.

Hold the pedal down the first few times to cut off the fuel.
Let up and try.
If it stumbles, try again with the pedal up...

Better to starve it at first with the pedal down to wash out any excess fuel.

Don't push it and burn up your starter.
Patience.
You were right about the patient part. After so long I finally got it started. Starts normally now so thanks. Now to install that upgraded n3r3 starter that my 04 had so this doesn't happen again when it's 20 Below again

I remember long ago when I first got my 04 I would turn the key and lights would turn on the dash but no crank. Some dude that was working on The IHOP I parked at said it was a bad starter since teeth wears out. So he lent me a Hammer and said hit the starter. I did and it started. He said just get a new starter installed and yep in the meantime while waiting on the new starter I would hit the starter and it fired up. When the new starter got installed I never had that issue again. Well until years later when the starter gave out lol

I figured it out. The clutch pedal safety sensor was not being pressed because the spacer that was placed there by the previous owner broke off . I made a ceramic one to replace it and viola . starts like a boss

Thanks for the update.
I'm glad I could help.

Get a battery tender/maintainer for the extreme cold or extended parking.
Parasitic draws on 8s suck a lot of juice while parked.

Mine is a bit weird with starting. It starts fine when cold, and if it warms up, and I have to turn it off for any reason, when I go to restart it, it seems to be turning over extremely slow. if the cars been running for a while, it doesn't seem to have this issue, but anything less than 15 minutes or so, it really doesn't want to go.

I've replaced the coils (NGK), plugs, wires, battery(Red top). I'm left with it being a starter or alternator issue, because that's all that's left that would make sense.
If I hook a booster pack up, it also starts fine, within those 15 minutes that the hard starts occur. Also, I'm getting a sub 13.5v reading, when the car is running. It sits around 13.48v or less.

Car is a 2009 GT. So, has the better starter. It just seems like it's been running slower, lately.

It's been my experience that a battery will last me about 3 years.
If it's that old or unknown, I'd replace it anyway.

Everything I listed is brand new, including the battery.

13.5V is a bit low. Should be in the ~13.9-14.5 range.

If it's turning over slowly it's likely due to inadequate power getting to the starter.

It may have been a grounding issue, in my case. I've run 6 0gauge grounding wires to different things, and it seems to have fixed the issues. Battery is going about 14v, starting is now at proper speed.

It just seems odd that it all off the sudden started doing that, but oh well.

P0335 code after changing "crankshaft position sensor" help please

hi i bought my 05 rx8 not starting i had thought it was just badly flooded but i deflooded it and it started to seem promising, building oil pressure and such. then it started backfiring due to intermittent spark (it did start once and die at idle). and was throwing P0336&P0335 and only those 2 codes,so i bought a new "crankshaft position sensor" (the reason i put that in quotes is because im pretty sure its an eccentric shaft sensor but was sold under that name pls correct me if wrong so i can return it lol) put it in now im getting no spark no oil pressure and its only throwing P0335 as a code, ive heard the next step is too check the wiring for the csps but i cant find where the wire leads too because its such a cramped space. if someone has a diagram or something or possibly another reason as to why it would be like that (it has a new, upgraded bonzai starter) please please let me know havent even got to drive this thing yet really really want to get her going would appreciate any help thanks🙂 (will add video of how it sounds cranking tomorrow, havent got any videos of it cranking since i changed sensor)

Won't start help!

Hi there. Happened a few days ago. It's already in my garage, but wondering if anyone has faced something similar and can hint me in the right direction.
Happy New Year and thanks on advance!

Please provide more info. Does it drive otherwise? When did this start? I don't hear any compression pulses and your motor pulley is turning so it sounds like the spark plugs are out or there is no compression. The circular saw sound might be the secondary air pump with shot bearings. If you put the car to ON but not start it, you should hear it ans be able to confirm that

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Drive? No, the car doesn't start so no drive at all.
I just started the day before to this happening (last Thursday) and it started fine, moved it just a bit to clean the garage and turn it off. Next morning (Friday) I wanted to start it to go for a drive and that happened.
Car was towed to my mechanic, but still hasn't been able to check it. I just want to have a rough idea on what to expect.

No compression

Accordingly to the garage. Engine has no compression. I'll go today and check, because they haven't pulled and open the engine, so no idea how they checked that.

Exclamation

So yeah, quick update, I went to the garage, can’t start. Checked fuel flow, it’s has high pressure, so no issues there. Then they removed a spark plug and checked, there’s no spark! So yeah how you’re going to get compression without ignition! Honestly I think they haven’t checked anything properly until I went today (which is frustrating). I’m waiting for the mechanic to return from lunch, they’re going to lift the car up and check why there’s no spark, so hopefully there’s still hope and my engine is fine
