starting issues

I ve read all the threads that have anything to do with starting. I dont think any of them apply to me, but maybe Im just not understanding. I recently baught my 8 from a dealer. I have an issue now. Which just started today. I coudlnt make my car start. at first the engine wouldnt crank over. then after 4 -5 attempts. it cranked and started but very slowly. I am still ahving these issues. figuered it might be my battery, but battery is strong. possibly the starter? who can help?

More info about the car. Year, Mileage, A/T or M/T, and any other history you might know. Mazda did come out with an updated starter. Find out when the last time the coils and spark plugs were changed or even replaced at all.

If you have an earlier year ('04 or '05) then it could be the starter.
They are known to be weak and have since released an upgraded unit.

If you are able to drive the car at high RPMs without constant misfires, then I doubt its an ignition problem (coils, spark plugs, plug wires).

First things first! Load test the battery and check the charging system.

I have a 2005 and the same problem. Started my car yesterday, backed it out of the driveway and shut it off. Started it 15 minutes later and drove it back in.
This morning it won't start. Seems to be cranking okay but won't turn over. I tried holding the gas all the way down and cranking. Tried to boost it just in case but still won't start. Battery sounds fine.
Any ideas?

Hesitating startups could be the starter (which is common with the '04s) or a weak batter.
