Sorry to bother you all...

this may be something that's been brought up before, but I swear I've looked and can't find anything similar.

Just got my 2004 RX8 back after a minor accident that threw some stuff out of whack on the front driver's side of my vehicle. The shop techs did a quick road test of the vehicle, but told me that I should return if anything didn't feel right. Well, something definitely doesn't feel right and I'll be taking it back, but I wanted to hit you all up first to see if it's something that may be unrelated.

I noticed that the car seems to be revving higher than normal while trying to output the same amount of power as before. For instance on a 1st gear start from a red light, the RPMs hit about 5 - 6k before the power hits the wheels, and this never happened before. Another thing I've noticed is that while cruising in 6th gear at 71mph down the expressway in Cruise Control, I used to stay a pretty constant 3 - 3.5K RPMs, but now it fluctuates, sticking around that point while driving on the flats and again revving up to 5 - 6K on slight (VERY slight) inclines, stays at these RPMs for a couple of seconds, then drops back down to the normal 3 - 3.5.

I haven't checked anything on the car since receiving it back from the shop (just got it back a few days ago and this is the first night of really driving it), so I was curious if there's anything I should check before either taking it back or continuing to troubleshoot on my own. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, since I'm about 33 miles out of warranty =(

Edit: Thanks Dom, I figured that was the best thing to do, and just shot an e-mail off to the service rep at the shop informing him of my imminent return

Wow. I dont know what to say. I have never heard of this.
Dont troubleshoot anything. Take it back and have them fix it or open a new claim.

I would still reset the ECU.

Have them check the clutch.

Thanks all

I'm starting to lean towards clutch as well. Only driven it once since my initial post to check some things out, and it's showing all the characteristics of a clutch slipping.

I did the flash reset, after which it started idling pretty low and it's starting to give off small 'backfire' noises when the engine is revved in neutral, so I guess the next time I drive it will be to the shop. Since she's a Sunlight Silver, I'm surprised it's taken this long, lol.

Thanks for all the input; you guys have always been a huge help!
