Should I take it in?

In the last week or so, my 2004 AT 8 has been having some minor issues. To be honest, however, I don't know if the mechanics at the dealer would notice a difference between how my car normally feels/sounds, and how it does now. What do you guys think? I'll describe the problems - they all started at the same time.

-When I start the car, and the RPMs go up to 2k, it hesitates a couple times getting up to 2k (before settling down where it should be). This is somewhat slight, but a noticable difference from what it was.

-There's more vibration and I'd almost say there's slight struggling when the car is running. Even at idle and constant RPM, there's a small shudder every now and then. While driving around, the ride isn't as smooth.

-When I give the car some throttle and let off, there's a slight click sound which sounds like it's coming from above the pedals somewhere. It doesn't matter how much/how little throttle I give it, there's a click when I let off fully.

-Lastly, it's a bit more of an effort to change between park, reverse, and drive.

All of these things are noticable to me, and worry me. But they are fairly slight, and I have the feeling that someone unfamilar with the car would just assume the car runs a little rough. Any thoughts on what to do (if anything)?

My 2004 AT starts at 2000rpm and drops to around 1000rpm when I cold start. Also, there is a slight vibration at idle with mine as well as a clicking sound coming from around the transmission when I'm in drive mode or reverse. None of it really bothers me as it is slight like you have described, but the fact that your car doesn't ride as smooth is not good. I bought mine used and now have 46000 miles, so I wouldn't know if the car used to be smoother. Sounds like you should just keep an eye out on these things and if they do get any worse you will be prepared. But it doesn't sound serious. I'm a bit iffy on the transmission myself, does yours shift all right or is it getting rough?

Given that the vehicles being discussed here are 04's, do you know if the motor mounts on the engine were ever repaired under a TSB for this issue on older 8's?

As far as I know it's not an official recall but if you encounter the problem it will be fixed. Mine vibrates a little, I'm gonna take mine in pretty soon, with a printed list of issues mazda has found and have them checked out.

I have a mt but when I start it up hot it is around 900 rpms and drops to like 600 and shudderes a lot like its stalling then the rpms go back up. Sorta scary sometimes really because the whole car starts to shake but quits right away when the rpms settle at right below 1k
