Exclamation Second gear grind issue must read!!!!!

Hello, MY name is Jordan im new to the forums but i need to get this out there.
MY car has <32000 miles on it and my second gear synchro has gone out... its a 2004 and its out of warranty. I have read that a lot of people have had this same problem with the same year or even a little newer RX-8's... i took the time to email MAzda to suggest that they have a recall on the transmission they responded quickly and sent the request to the admins. IF UR RX-8 HAD THIS PROBLEM EMAIL MAZDA AND LET THEM KNOW AND REQUEST THE RECALL THE MORE PEOPLE DO IT THE BETTER CHANCE IT WILL HAPPEN!!!!!!!

THanks,
JOrdan

you're new, so i'll cut you some slack. Emailing mazda to suggest they issue a recall will do nothing. Just change out your fluid and most of the time that will fix the issue.

why you guys gotta beef so hard all the time! obviously they are refering to what brands are recommended and if a diff weight would suit different climates better for our car. its starting to **** me off when ppl get **** on for a simple question.

I personally use redline.. make sure whatever you use does not have the limited slip additives.

Its the same deal as the clutch bracket. We tried for years to get them to recall this part since it is a safety hazard. Imagine cruzing at 70mph and your clutch snapping off while stuck in gear, not a good time. Till this day, obv, they still won't recall the part.

yea it wont do anything

i paid 1900 for my second gear to be fixed. my warranty got denied because of my midpipe.

put anything except royal purple in your trans. thats what ruined mine and it is no good for ours. Redline is in it now and it works beautifully!

then if its too bad, i have a spare trans for sale if you need one

Even your 8 is still under warranty, Mazda will not fix it for you.
Trust me, I have tried.

In my case, they claimed it is driver false, not their design problem.

Mine just got fixed, same mileage as yours, under full warranty. Maybe you acted like a jerk to the service manager? Do they think you are a boy racer?

I didn't abuse mine. I even had the transmission oil changed at 12,000 miles.

Unfortunately its back in the shop today because the transmission now leaks. At least they gave me a loaner.

^Some shops are more stingy about the warranty than others.

fedno 5: Try going to another shop and see what they say.

thanks a lot everyone i appreciate all the help... btw the shop owner was really cool to me unfortunetly my warranty ended on the 24 of april this year... on the trans at least.... but i recently found out that the previous owner of my car had gotten a fidelity extended warranty( found this out yesterday)... they are covering all the repairs and giving me a loaner... when i get it all fixed ill make sure to put redline in it and i drive the car pretty conservatively i think its a design flaw with the way the schychros are set. But no worries i think ill be in good shape by next week when the car is back from the shop ill let u guys know how it went

This is one of the first positive reviews I've read about the fidelis extended warranty! Maybe they only work if you don't buy them

my 05 is now grinding in 2nd in any kind of upper rpm shift, either spirited or regularly. i work at a ford dealership and one of the service advisers said he thinks it could be the synchro. should i see about getting it fixed/rebuilt or do you guys think it can be fixed with a trans flush?

ive heard a worn engine mount will cause the 2nd gear grinding issue. as mine only grinds when engine would moving.....at idle sitting or coasting there is no issue shifting....when revving spiritly and shifting into second or downshifting into second it will grind as the rpms are still great, if my speed is reduced before shifting, say 20 mph its falls into gear easily with no issues, low rpms......but down shifting with high rpms around speeds of 30 mph will cause a grind..... i believe its the worn motor mounts and the transmission not being correctly aligned when shifting

anyone else hear of this Theory?

Your 2nd gear syncro is dying or dead.

The only way motor mounts could cause this issue is if your transmission was also not firmly bolted to the engine... which would be another problem.

I am with NAP.

A simple way to confirm if it's synchro is double-clutching. When you shift, push the clutch in, put the car in neutral, release the clutch, push in the clutch again, rev match(when downshifting) and let out the clutch. This largely eliminates the work synchros have to do, so if you don't have issues double clutching, then yeah, your synchros are dead.

I had occasional 2nd gear grinds for some reason(clutch all the way in, RPM not very high, etc.) very occasionally, but I am not surprised after seeing the pitch black Motorcraft synthetic MTF. Never happened with the new Motul Gear 300 yet, so I will see.

Let's think about this a minute. The issue only presents when the car is moving, but doesn't present stopped even though the engine is turning in both conditions. So, would the engine end be at fault or would something after the engine : gear, diff, PPF alignment, etc be a more likely culprit?

And, what fluid is in there? If it's GL5, that might be the cause.
