RX8 Overheating, Spitting Coolant from overflow tanks and Stopped Working.
Hello Guys,
Let me start by introducing myself.
My name is Hyde, and currently I live in Indonesia.
I bought an 05' RX8 in December 2011, and the car has gone crappy ever since.
My RX8 overheated and as a result the overflow tank lip cracked and eventually broke off. I glued it several times with power glues and it just broke off every other day I drive the car. Since RX8 parts are not easy to get in indonesia, I custom made the tank from metal. And... it blows, literally exploded shooting coolant to all directions. (don't critic me on my welding skills, I made it from thin sheet of metal so I can easily shape it as close to the plastic tank).
After reading several threads in this forum tagged with "RX8 Overheat", I concluded that My engine is overheating, which caused my rotorhousing to warp and hence the compression leaks. (Can anyone correct me in this one? I'd be happy to hear that my engine is not f*cked)
SO, lets say that is the case, What should I replace?
Rotor Housing, rubber seals in the engine, and what else?
are the rotors and E-Shaft reusable?
Apex seals?
Thank you,
Any reply will be much appreciated.
please Do not suggest the following:
1. your RX8 is FUBAR, go sell and get a new one
(RX8 In Indonesia cost USD$85.000 new, and I just bough mine for USD$40.000. There is no way I'll buy another one. Surprised? a used ferrari 360 Modena cost as much as 300,000 dollars. so yes, go figure)
2. Why dont you just take it to the mazda Dealership?
(Indonesian Mazda Dealership is useless on fixing rotaries, My friend's RX8 was flooded earlier last year, in which water came into the combustion chamber and Mazda advised him to purchase a new RX8. so.. No thank you)

Wow, that sucks.
It does seem likely that your engine is toast.
Can your Dealership at least do a compression test correctly?
That would tell you a lot of what is going on.
Could you get a rebuilt motor shipped to Indonesia?
It's probably a safer bet then trying to rebuild the engine yourself and messing it up.

of course I would rather have a complete healthy engine shipped from the experts.
Dude ... that f'n blows huge
Ok ... how about we assume the engine isn't toast and you just order a new Coolant bottle.
Instead of trying to make one out of sheet metal?
Would it cost you your first born?

Get a new OEM overflow tank, but by the sounds of it your coolant seals are shot which means you need a rebuild. Maybe its time to buy an engine stand and try your hand at the rebuilding business. Might take you 2 or 3 times but sounds cheaper than your alternatives.

but let's say that my housings are warped, Is it possible to straighten them up by cnc-ing them? I do own a workshop dealing with performance conventional piston engine.
I don't believe so, however I have no hands on experience in this....
