RX8 not starting, stalling when revs not kept up, low power when started

My RX8 is not starting. I managed to push start it, but if I don't keep revs up it stalls and won't start again unless it's push started.

When it does start, it has very low power and if I let it get below 3500 revs, it stalls.

It also sounds very strange (rattly/raspy)

What are the possibilities that could be wrong with it?

1. How many miles on it?

2. When was the last tuneup done?

3. Hows the oil levels?

4. When was the last compression test done?

To add to Coldwound's questions:
When was the last time you searched?
Really?

Your issue has been discussed in great detail in the stickies. Try doing yourself (and the car) a favor by educating yourself a bit. Or, wait till the car blows. Your call...

33,000 miles on it

What do you mean by tuneup? It had it's last service at 25,000 miles.

Oil level is fine

It's not had a compression test as far as I know...

From what I've read, it may be the ignition coils or the catalytic converter? Is that right?

What are the most likely causes?

Can you get a compression test done at a normal garage? (not a rotary garage)

Plugs coils and wires I would start there.

If that doesn't fix the issue you need to find a shop that has the compression tester for a rotary engine.

Due to the mileage it's pretty rare you apex seals went.

And the factory cats are warrantied if they went on you.
