RX8 Electrical Problems

Hi everyone,

Big problems these last 2 days with the RX8. Here's what happened:

Car was running perfectly fine, everything was ok. Then one day I got in the car, and the CD player just randomly started skipping a brand new CD. So I tapped on the faceplate a bit, and the skipping went away. Later it came back, so I tapped on it again, but this time it needed a bit of force to stop ( I know - I'm an idiot ) anyways after the last hit (which was harder) the entire thing just stopped working!!

So CD Player + Radio stopped working (won't turn on).. The center console screen (that displays temperature, time etc.) stopped working as well.

On putting the key in "ON" position, the speedometer & cluster pointers just spin left and right and then they go back to normal.

Key fob remote (unlock, lock, trunk opening) as well as the central locking do NOT work either. They worked PERFECTLY fine before this radio accident.

ALL of this happened instantly after the radio stopped working.

I disconnected the battery, then re-connected & tried to reset the ECM by pushing the brake pedal. Even did the odometer "TEST" thing.

What is going on? Any ideas?

Thank you in advance!

Any aftermarket parts installed? Has the battery been relocated to the rear? My radio will sometimes die when going over speedbumps because my battery is in the trunk

Nope, no aftermarket stuff.

It seems it's an issue with the computer. Alarm/locking key fob stopped working but the car also re-sets the computer every time i put the key in.

For example: I put the key in and turn to "ON" - the arrows in the instrument cluster go crazy for a second and go back to normal with lots of noises clicking under the hood for each component of the car. I put the key back to OFF -> ON again, no craziness/noises. But if I take the key out completely, put it back in and "ON" the arrows spin every time and the clicking starts.

How do I reset the alarm/locking?

Spent weeks looking for the shortage. Soon my A/C controls gave out and the car started flickering. I just went ahead and bought a whole new faceplate + A/C controls and problem solved.

A guy on RX8Club is selling one. PM "sanyok" he's got a faceplate from an 07.
