Hey guys! Long time!

I think having the bulletins in more places is the right thing to do. However, don't be shocked if the board owners take them down. Mazda's been on the "copyright infringement" warpath lately.

That said, I can't remember where I was reading comments about the moisture in lights today but I laughed my *** off at some of the comments. So that leads me to this...

Having said that, I can't say enough how nice it is to have these somewhere and have them updated. I myself was wondering if having them posted this way would cause any issues?

Is the drivetrain warranty an extension from the date of the notice? Ie it will go till 8/2013? My manual trans whirs when it goes into 4th and while in 4th. I am trying to decide if I should take it in before it seems too bad or wait till it worsens. Thanks.

All I'm going to say on the issue is Mazda tries to get me to take mine down
usually once a year. Not going to happen.

The board owners will not be able to keep them posted here if Mazda says to remove them.

It was just a heads up.

Funny thing is for my car, that should have ended 6/09. On my Mazda Warranty Vehicle History Report, the Powertrain Warranty Extension shows a start date of 8/21/06 and still shows "Open".

I have asked two different service managers and gotten three different answers. It could matter because my 4th gear synchros whine.

Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) are specifically designed for dealership use. Keep in mind that TSB's are NOT recalls and are not indicative of any concerns with a specific vehicle, they are literally updates to service information for dealer personnel. They are updates for the vehicles original repair manual. TSB’s are only covered for the basic warranty of the vehicle. Therefore at this time, this would not be a covered component since the vehicle has been out of warranty since 2007.

Granted:

She got my 'hopes up' with her first response to me requesting the 'mileage' which had nothing to do with the final resolution or what my original request was about.

Had this been her original and ONLY response I would have just written it off as tough beans the first time. (Like normal.)

Shouldn't play with the customers 'hopes'. Especially when their pocketbook has been severely dented by a design flaw proven by a TSB.

I'm not sure I get this oil one, maybe I is a retard.

So forgetting the engine replacement part of it for a second.
They are eluding that when doing and oil change, we should drain the old oil, check for metal, if metal is found in drained oil(marble pattern), then we should assume we have have metal bits in the oil cooler lines and probably more importantly it could be clogging up oil lines and thereby not getting proper lubrication to the seals.
So...........if metal is seen, then we put in new filter and oil, idle for ten minutes, drain again, throw that filter out, put yet another filter on and add more new oil?

I thought it pretty elementary dear Watson..!

"When the rotary engine is replaced because of smoke from tailpipe or internal engine noise, an oil flushing procedure needs to be done if metal particles are found in the engine oil. This is to remove metal particles from the oil cooler and the oil lines."

So yes, this is information to Dealers where an Engine has been renewed for the above reasons, and if Particulates are found in the old engines oil to do a "Double" oil and filter change...

This is ONLY when an Engine has been renewed for these reasons, at installation time.
Naturally to Flush out any metal left in oil lines/oil coolers from old engine.

Having said that...

Personally, I would strongly recommend ANYONE who has had a engine renewed by a Mazda Dealer under the "extended 8 year warranty program" to have an Oil and Filter change (at your expense) within a few hundred miles use of new engine.

Or anyone who has had an engine rebuild or buys a brand new RX-8.

But................wouldn't you just normally extend further and say that if you check your oil and see any metal shavings(or whatever), that you should immediately do this same flush? That's where I was going with it.
Also, imagine if you notice your oil consumption stops or slows dramtically, then you find shavings, this be an indication of clogged up oil injectors and thereby keeping seals from getting lubricated.
I guess at this point I would be yanking the injectors and cleaning them....hell, maybe even getting new lines as well.
Anyway.............all this is not for this thread, but for another. Thanks for updating them!

I was looking for this thread (weirdly did not come up in searches) and all this time it is a sticky in the troubleshooting section.

Ash8, there are TSB related threads that are already stickied but they have broken links since www.finishlineperformance.com changed their site and even the new link for rx8 TSB's is missing many of the TSB's. I think that sticky should be deleted and this one put in the tech section.
