Rubble/Growling Engine Noise

Was at the dealer today for some engine noise concerns, I just stopped in to see if I was right hearing that noise being abnormal. Noise description: makes loud like growling or rubble kind of noise. Engine runs fine but that noise does not sound right. I have had that noise for a while now, now it really has gotten louder. The service writer seemed nice and told me it could be a worn out alternator bearing or a pully or something like that??? So i schedualed an appointment for next week.

Any hints???

So, anyways I got the noise figured out, for those who are interested... It was the water pump =)

Was it a low rumbling that usually ocurred at idle? Mine just started making the sound, once the revs climb it goes away. BTW, what did they charge for the part? Total cost? I may look into changing the water pump myself. My 8 has almost 90K miles, usually change out water pumps when timing belt needed....but that schedule doesn't work with the rotary...thanks for the info.

Yes, it did seem like the noise went away at a higher rev, but I heard it mostly at idle. When I drove the car at a steady speed and a low rpm you barely heard it, but the noise was more noticable at idle. The dealer did not charge me because of the powertrain warrenty, but before knowing of the warrenty they wanted $650 for the whole thing and the diagnostic charge which would have been $140 out of that $650 I'm guessing??? I don't know how much the part itself is, the repair order shows no charge, sorry.

Good luck with everything.
