RP Short Shifter leak???

When i took in the car the other day for recall work, i told them of a wierd smell like sumthing was smoking or burning when i was in nuetral after driving around. They said it's the rp short shifter i have and that it's leaking...i was confused on how exaclty the short shifter could be leaking and they said i need a silicone sealer to fix it. any1 know what they might be thiniking and how a shifter could leak? could it be the grease that came with it going through an o ring or sumthing?? thanks.

This make no sense to me. There is a rubber "OEM" seal that fits the RP SS as snug and as well as it does the stock shifter. You just need to make sure its pushed down on the white ring.

yea, and as far as i know it is, i installed it. could my exhaust be leaking under that near the tranny, and thats why he thinks the shifter is the problem?

If the rubber seal is properly placed and "in tact" nothing can enter the cabin space. I suggest you pull the shift boot and trim and make sure the seal is firmly sealed around the shifter and to the floor. If it is installed correctly I see no way for anything to get past it.

Check the DIY and ensure you installed the rubber shift boots correctly. Seems like an odd fault to me.....there is no way oil is leaking out of the top of the shifter housing.

I bet you smell tranny fluid. I have a rear tail shaft seal going bad. I can smell the burning fluid through the console.

do u smell it primarily when ur in neutral after u have been driving? thats when its the worst for me...or when i pull into my garage and put it in neutral, all the smell is just trapped there. also there is a nasty spot of sum fluid underneath the tranny on my garage floor now. What causes the tail shaft to go bad though?
