I had the pads replaced a few months back due to the brake squeal issues. And now, 4K-5K miles later it has RETURNED just exactly like before. What is up with that?

 

My car is at the dealer right now because of this. Apparently there are some new shims or something to correct the problem on some of the 8's that the simple pad replacement didn't fix.

check your brake fluid. according to priscilla ls1 lowbrake fluid can cause squealing.

 

Yup. Same here, though it's not as bad after the "fix." Now they only squeal at a very specific pedal pressure, where before it squealed no matter what.

 

Not sure of accuracy, but having the same problem and when taken to the dealer was informed that this was normal on this car???

Exactly what I'm experiencing. I had the front pads replaced 3000 miles ago and i just started hearing a squeak again. It happens when I apply light-moderate pressure between 30-40 mph. It's not as bad as before though...i really can't even tell if it's coming from the front or rear.

 

Same here.. I had the recall performed..Finally some quietness..Now 5K later it is back.. When I take it in for the oil change and TWO future recalls I will see what they will do. Currently 24K.

 

I'm actually in the waiting room of the dealer right now for the same issue. Let's hope it goes away, if even temporarily.

 

I had the shims put in, and they still squeek. But now, it only does it on initial contact....like if I press the brake, it squeals, then if I lift off and then brake the rest of the way it doesn't squeal. I have a friend who works for Mazda that did the work, and he told me at this point I'm just SOL because if I wanted to persue the issue any further up, Mazda won't do anything about it because I painted the calipers, and Mazda is doing anything they can to void warranty work because of all the problems with the 8. He said the only reason they're still working to fix the brakes on my car is because it's him doing the work.

 

My brakes are squealing and they said they won't fix it. (At least Woodbridge, VA Mazda said something cause Rosenthal Mazda, VA didn't even look at me. Heck, I walked around in their garage and nobody asked to help me!!! You know .... sorry back to brakes).

Anyway, I need new pads and am thinking about new brake lines also. When in the face of BS, DIY dang it.

 

I just took my car in for service last thursday for this problem.

Sat there like 6-7 hours for them to do a job that only takes like what, 15 minutes the most ?

Anyway, now the noise is gone, but from what Im reading is that it will come back sooner or later ...

and funny thing is that I think my dealer does not know about this problem, they just changed the front brake pads and thats it.

Well, I guess I should print the recall thing out next time with the engine recall thing as well.

The brake squeal problem is gone!! Obviously it has some to do with the wheels as well.

Same problem that is already mentioned. At lower speeds 30-40mph lovely high pitch squeal. Took it in and was told that my 2005 already has the new improved (post recall) pads and that it is just something I need to live with. Other than changing the wheels, has anyone found a solution?

 

Yes - do a search for "brake bedding procedure"
It was posted several times and both me and my buddy tried it.
It works to fix the noise that came back after the initial pad replacement that was good for about 3000 miles.

 

I bedded em multiple times (and posted here about it -- has step by step links to how to do it). It just keeps coming back....I even added it to my sig

I find the only true solution I can rely on is turning the volume up on the radio.

I just had my 8 in for recall work and oil change. I had a groove on my rotor that was leading to my squealing. They just machined it down and now all is quiet; does everyone else have smooth rotors but squeal? Perhaps I have some rx8 falsetto to look forward to...

 

All brake pads need bedding-in. The regular ones can get it with regular driving. The performance ones, you need to do it separately, even twice in a row.
If the noise persists, then you either have warped or scratched rotors. No amount of bedding-in will help for long with those.... The discs should come off the car to check for scratches as those can be on the side towards the car body - so a simple visual inspection through the wheel might not help diagnose the problem.
