Hello, I too have the same problem. I have difficulty starting my 8 in the morning. After I get it going, I drive it to work and after I shut it down, I cannot start it again for at least 30 minutes. Sometimes it will take hours before I can start again. This sucks when I need to stop at the store or a quick something. When and if I find out what it is, I will let you know. And if you find out before me, then you let me know. Good luck to both of us.

Time to get your engines compression checked. Hot start issues usually are caused by low compression.

Hot engines are harder to start. Make sure the starter, battery, and ignition are good. If that doesn't fix it, compression test.

No...they're not. They are normally caused by bad coils, bad plugs, bad battery or bad starter. If you have a compression issue you will notice it in more areas then just a hard start...for example...rough idle. Your options are to drop $100 on a compression test at Mazda or to drop $100 on plugs or coils. Personally...I like to physically get something for my $100 rather than a "You're compression is good" comment while taking it from behind. Even if the plugs and coils aren't the problem...they can sit on a shelf and be used later while the compression test can not.

Yes, all of the above can cause slow hot starts. I am just going by me personal experience. I grabbed some bhr coils, a red top, and decarbed my engine. This just masked the low compression eventually the hot starts came back. So it was new engine time for me.

Check your starter? 04 and 05 starters are weak and useless...

OP, do what devilboi^ said. Mine had to crank for a while before starting and replacing coils and plugs fixed the issue. So replace your spark plugs, if you haven't replaced them in a while, and then check your battery and starter. Clean all the connections on the battery too.

try searching this forum for "power steering issue" or something like that. It's pretty common.

Well I had my 8 for exactly 5 months. I purchased it Dec 26, 2010 and I traded it in on May 25, 2011. I had it with these cars. In all the years I owned my prvious Rx7's I never had so much trouble as with this piece of sh*t Rx8. As it turned out, my catalytic converter melted, the idle control circuit was malfunctioning, I needed to replace the started, the battery, plugs, wires, coils, and if that wasn't enough, the CD player skipped like a mother. All together, in parts alone, I was looking at more than $1500. Plus the time and labor related expenses. That is if the compression was good enough to invest in it. If not, then I was looking at thousands more in a new engine. At least $5000 more. Whoooo, that was a mouth full. So, in the end, after sitting on this for nearly a month. My car just sat in my garage this whole time while I decided on what to do. I started to weigh my options. I started to look at other cars also. When I found what I wanted, I simply drove in with my piece of sh*t Rx8 and drove out in an "03 Mazda Mx5 with only 40K miles on it. This car is as good as brand new. I'm loving it, no more getting stranded. The whole transaction only set me back $1000 and I'm back on the road in a very reliable, nice, fun to drive, awesome vehicle, and I'm still in a Mazda. My advice to anyone out there is, If you don't get your Rx8 brand new, don't get it. You just don't know what your going to end up with. Thanks to all of you for all your help.
