Ringing noise

I have been hearing this "ringing" noise lately . It starts at about 3000 rpms then stops till about 5000 rpms . It sounds like maybe the throw out bearing. It only does it when the car is in gear , in any gear , but not in netural . Any ideas?

I would take it to the dealer if it is consistant. You might also consider Red Line or Royal Purple for tranny and diff.

DrRockin: Is it a very faint, very high-pitched ringing, almost like metal scraping on metal? I get that sometimes at low speeds--likely the tranny preparing for transition between gears. Not sure if yours is any different, though.

I think this thread is addressing the same issue. I've had that noise in both RX-8 that I've own. Havent really got a solid answer yet, some say it might be the throw out bearing. But I definitely don't think the sound is from the air box resonating. If anyone knows or had similar sound fixed, please help.

ZGlide , no that thread doesn't sound like this noise ... It does it in all gears starts about 3000 rpm till about 3700 and then about 5000 rpms , much louder . Sounds like spinning metal with a ringing to it . weird thing ....doesn't do it while in netural . Does it cold or hot doesn't seem to matter . I honestly don't know how long it has been doing it . The days are getting warming , so when I started driving with the windows down is when I noticed it . Now its driving me nuts . I going to take it in Monday .

same noise here; took it to the dealership. Rode with two different techs, but they said they couldn't hear anything. They took me out in another 8, which obviously didn't make the noise. I've had my friends comment on the noise, so I'm totally baffled as to why they couldn't hear it. Maybe working in the noise shop cut down on their upper spectrum of hearing. *shrug*

More importantly, I have on file that I came in complaining about it, so if something blows up it should without doubt be covered. It *only* happens when the clutch is engaged, so I don't buy that it is a normal operational noise of the engine. Perhaps a normal operational noise of the troublesome clutch.

Anyone with an aftermarket clutch or flywheel think they have the same noise?

I think I have same noise. But if many of you also get that, I think it may be just normal. Nock on wood!

Me too!

Add me to the list!

I get a very high-pitched (but not really that loud) ringing from about 3000 to 3600 RPM's. You can hear it best with the window down. It isn't very loud, but it doesn't seem right. If anyone gets theirs fixed, please post so we'll all know what it was! Thanks!!

I got the noise FIXED ! Thanks to the Mazda Tech here . Seems the transmission dapner shield was coming loose and that was the noise . Tightened bolts and the noise is no longer there ! So you might want it checked . It had them stumped for two days and finally found it . My car is normal again ! Good luck guys
