If you had ever seen a Honda "illusion blue" motorcycle you would understand - sometimes looks blue, sometimes looks purple - so the color is "blurple".

From my reading of the letter this is a "design flaw" and not a "build flaw". In other words, they are not going to just recall ones that were built was a bad part, or something installed wrong - in a certain VIN range. They are going to recall them all.

The part that makes no sense is the inspect and repair. If the dealer has a lot full of "no mile" cars then unless someone has been sitting in them and running the motors then there will be NO damage. So to block them from selling leads me to think they are just going to recall them all for a "design change". So there will be an inspection to make sure something on our cars is not fried now, if so it will be fixed. But in any case the fix (heat sheilding?) will be applied to all 8s.

That is the way I read it, which could be 100% wrong

I bought mine on Friday. They told me that the recall repairs should be done bye EOD today. Well, contacted the dealer and they think it may be done by tomorrow, but weren't really sure. :-(

I'll post more information when I know more. They have been very secret about it.

No. A burning substance was thrown at the windshield. That was back in December.

 

Did they call someone for the parts and repair info?

I don't believe you'll have your car that soon. That's not what I'm hearing. Stay tuned....can't add anything else at this stage. Would like to, but the info isn't available yet :o .

I was driving my car on Tuesday and the height coming out from the center console (above the transmission) was just amazing. The area around the shifter.

I look forward to a recall. Another chance for Mazda provide some free service work.

 

CNN was reporting recently about several Ford models that had defective cruise control devices that would ignite and cause fires... some owners who had their homes burn down cause it ignited overnite in the garage were featured.. these were cruise control models made from early 90's until the 2004 model year, when a new switch was introduced on all models. I don't think Mazda and Ford shared the same switches, even though there's more shared R&D now (same company basically)..

 

There was one who parked over some cardboard, which ignited due to the high cat. temp.

i was at the dealership last night, and as a quick subtle conformation on this, i asked him if i wanted delivery on a car right now, would he be able to. i was told the only thing that would stop it would be the fact he wouldnt be able to plate it that late at night. so i asked if theres any current recalls. not that he knows of (but this is on a new '05 model, so im guessing fairly recent build date)

 

you are in canada but it is the same there concerning this issue. for instance check out some canmadian forums like toronto mazda3 club where it is being discussed as well. some dealer personnel may not have been informed yet. but canada is included in this recall.

 

I agree - this makes the most sense. But the letter says (twice) that vehicles should be "inspected and repaired (if necessary)". If they plan on a recall type fix for all RX-8s, then the "if necessary" part shouldn't be there. All vehicles would be banned from sale until inspected and repaired with the new recall procedure.

And I don't buy the "poor English skills of Japanese employees" idea. The letter is signed by the MNAO Vice President, David Zuchowski. He should be able to proofread his own letter before signing it.

 

A recall doesn't necessarily mean a part HAS to be replaced. Even on a recall the car is inspected and the part replaced only "if necessary". We know that not all cars need the repair since some after a certain date already have it done from the factory.

 

How do we know that? I have read the letter and it does not say "any RX-8s within the this VIN range" or "any RX-8s with a build date of 05/2005 or older". It says all RX-8s no matter the year or the build date.

If some cars came with the fix then those would be available for sale right now, right?

Or did I miss something?

There's certainly additional information than just that single notice. That notice doesn't even say what they need to be inspecting for. Just that they need to do so and gives a very vague list of the possible issues. So there must be a release somewhere that has the usual recall format that gives the applicable VIN-range and all the info on what to look for.

 

I am not aguing with you, I was just wondering if somewhere something was posted about the affected VINs that I had not seen.

I am betting on all 8s being in this recall, since I don't think this is a bad part issue but a bad design issue. Usually when they tell them to stop delivering cars don't they include the VINs that are included? It would SEEM strange to stop all 04s and 05s if every car were not in "danger"....

Well, I could swear that either Gomez or Zoom44 had earlier posted something about later model '05s not being affected, hence why there were more than a few questions regarding whether or not someone's new 8 would be in the list, but I sure can't find where I read that now.

 

I love my 8. I'll get my recall done when it's time and then I will still love my 8.

 

Just came back from the dealer. I still can't take delivery of my car until later this week (maybe). They explained that all cars build before mid March 05 need to have a heat shield installed to prevent the harness that run near the exaust to burn. Cars build after that may need the heat shield to be inspected. All cars need to have an EPROM upgrade (computer upgrade).

Mine was build on March 17th, so they are waiting on confirmation of what exactly needs to be done as it is right on the boundary. they said that all Mazda dealers will get the notification tomorrow and if the parts don't go on back order, all new cars be released by EOW.

Owners that have already taken delivery of their cars will have to make an appointment starting sometime in August.

It's been almost a week since I bought the car and haven't been able to take it for a spin. I'm starting to loose sleep.

Just talked to the local dealership, they just got their suspension of all sales letter today. The salesman read me the letter from mazda canada, which stated that stationary vehicles operated at "high rpm for excessive lengths of time" had experianced damage to components near the exhaust and associated problems.

The letter also stated that no such damage has been reported in Canada on any vehicle.
