I would rather they recall the early build cars to check whether their pressure plate bolts are torqued correctly. I hear more transmission horror stories than O2 sensor failures. In fact, I haven't read one thread with any symptoms that this (soon to be) recall is for.

except for the 2 dozen or more heat related engine replacements in texas plus the equal number of them in nevada with a team of engineers from japan and MNAO in Nevada the last week- yeah there hasnt been any symptoms of heat related issues

Not to veer off subject too much here guys, but I think I got a problem...

As some of you know, I ordered my RX8 recently. It is supposed to be leaving Japan in the next few weeks for delivery.

Does this totally screw me up??

This could be a real good thing. Obviously Mazda is doing the right thing. Cudos to them for stepping up like they are doing.
I have always said(since Jan/o4) that heat was a problem in the engine bay of this car. There is just no flow of air in that thing until you get to 60ph and we all know that the rotory puts out a lot of heat. I think they tried to compensate with the dual oil coolers up front but those things only cool well when some air is going through them. Automatic's only have one of them Hmmmmm? The rotory engine itself may be able to withstand the heat but all the other componets may not. What other car has a dedicated cooling system(abeit a pretty poor one) for the ecu?( I admit there may be some but I am not aware of any.) I conversed with CZ about my concern with the heat and electronics in early 04. They thought the temps where high also. Run your car in town one day with the a/c on and the outside temp over 90. Drive below 45mph for 30-45mins. Get home remove your ecu cover and touch the ecu-- it will almost burn your hand. Thats too hot.Things may tolerate heat for a while but in time excessive heat will wear on it.
Futher more the issue with the oil pump, I am not sure if the pump is providing enough oil when needed. I wish I could afford to send mine to RB for their mod. But why should I. Mazda now maybe will fix that issue. I also bet there is more going on than just heat. Mazda did a LOT of remarkable things with this car but I dont think the package is what it could be. Glad to hear Mazda is serious> renews my faith. I await.

it appears tho dragger that they are concerned with under car temps not engine bay temps.

I don't belive it.

All the cry babies buy the RX8. Oh, my car gets bad milage Oh my car floods. wa wa wa wa
They cry so much on this forum about every little thing.

AND
NOT ONE COMPLAINT
ABOUT

Back up tail lights Therewould be at least 50 to 100 cry babies (maybe it's the
water in the lense)

fuel gauge Perhaps this one is true. The gauge is suppose to move
less so you get better milage

Damage to the O2 sensors funny thing no Cels reported. Do I hear a wah ?

Parking brake So that's why they move in parking lots.

How in the hell can your fuel tank get damaged? It's made of steel. Maybe they mean the heat is evaporating the gasoline.

Neutral switch Just what in bloody hell is that Aussie refering to?

Yes, I agree there is too much heat in the RX8 cabin but this is a funny down under story.

ssshhhh I hope it doesn't become true.
If you can't have fun then why own the 8. After all if this happens it's not all that bad. Look at the up side.

Oh please show me where the 8 owners have been complaning about this. (not the engine swap)

I was aware of this almost a year ago but promised not to say anything about it until an appropriate time. The fuel tanks are experiencing some ill-effects from very high latent temperatures. At least it's being addressed. They will take care of all these type things in time. This is an NHTSA issue, so it's serious. Don't panic folks but if and when they contact you don't hesitate to get it addressed.

Plastic gas tanks. Really? Ok, so what can happen? Plastic get hot and deforms where it releasing plastic molecules into the tank.
Or are you refering to: ooo I'm too hot lets ignite or explode.

Now, all the terrorist have to do is buy an RX8 and park it next to a Federal building.

No on the serious side I have been watching the AZ and Nevada guys with Heating and performance issues.

But is it really the same thing? If it's so hot that the engine died, wouldn't those people already had the same symptoms described in the first post?

From the description of the affected components I'd think the fix will simply be some additional heat shielding of the exhaust.

The news is true. E-mails have been sent to dealers concerning the "stop delivery".

Um... que?

Really, I tried making sense of your post, but I guess I'm not stoned enough yet. Maybe after this 2nd bowl it'll make sense.

O.o

And too much heat IN THE CABIN? ARe you mad, dear sir? The miata was a real roaster in the cabin, and so was the SA/FB. But the absolute worse I've ever experienced was a friend's Ford Cortina. Like the heater was on 24/7 and there's nothing that you could do about it.

The 8 is as relaxed as a Lincoln, cabin-wise, compared to the miata.. sheesh.

Like I said.. after I get baked, maybe your post will make sense.

Wow!

I just picked up my car today - and no one at the dealership said anything about this. Of course, I actually took "delivery" on June 30 and have been driving a loaner 8 (new, with 7 miles on it when they gave me the keys) for the last 9 days while they got a new windshield installed in my car (small chip). So I guess I am lucky I went ahead and did the deal when I did, otherwise I would not have a new 8 sitting in my driveway tonight!

Here is one for you guys. my lump with a coolant leak. bad news it leaves green spots on the garage floor. good news is replacement motor is ordered and is under warranty.
After reading this thread, I hope the Mazda team in NV enjoys the weather. I know my 8 does

I wonder if when the 8 is getting its engine replaced these saftey inspections will be preformed
Time will tell.

More info has come to hand. Looks as if all affected cars will need modification. A heat shield fitted to the fuel tank, and possibly some additional work as well. New cars off the boat have had the heat shield fitted at the factory.

My contact tells me cars built in late March '05 (not sure of the exact date) have the new shield installed. Every earlier RX-8 will need a heat shield. I believe all North American RX-8's (including cars built after late March '05) will get a new flash as part of this recall, as well. Looks like they'll be relying on the new flash to drop the cat temp which is affecting the other components mentioned earlier.

I'm still not sure how this will all pan out for owners of RX-8's in countries outside North America, but it is looking likely (to me) that they'll need modifying too.

Gomez.

ah.......... a new flash to cool the cat

You mean we will be slower. It will dump more fuel down the pipe.

I don't think so.. I don't need any flooding problems. Mine runs just fine on the M flash.

I think for those people that have an after market Intake and exhaust, the heat problem probabaly doesn't exsist as we are pushing and flowing more air through the 8 at a faster rate.
Nothing wrong getting the heat shield. Except the heat will be reflected back into the cockpit and trunk. I can make a loaf of bread right now in my trunk. The consol cooks my batteries on my cell phone melts photographs ect..

That's all I need; a flash to make our slow **** cars even slower. Maybe I ought to look at a Toyota Pirius...

Looks like the new replacement for the Toyota Supra is more appealing everyday.
Umm.. a retro Camaro.

Relax. Don't jump to any rash conclusions. The smarts in this car will allow Mazda to tailor the flash for the operating conditions. They will be able to modify the fuel delivery to dump more fuel in if the car is stationary at high revs for an extended period. How often do you operate the car that way?

I'm sure the heat shield will be designed to direct heat away from the cabin and trunk.....so stay cool and see what evolves.

Gomez.

The service monkeys can't get a wet dream right...MNAO expects them to get a total recall right? Like the AC amp replacement was supposed to fix the air cycling between warm and cold? All mine does differently now is when you turn the **** to full cold it automatically switches it to recirculate. I am ready to cut my losses and trade in I think. I love my 8, but this is getting to be absolutely pitiful.
