ran out of gas, now won't start

I let some one else drive my rx-8 and they ran it out of gas. i have since put 6 gallons of gas into it and it still won't turn over. I try to turn it over for less than 10 seconds, wait ~ 1 minute between tries, tried pumping the pedal, tried pedal all the way to the floor (i've read this stops gas from entering and fooding the engine) all of this in moderation so as not to kill the battery, and finally let it sit over night in case i had flooded it. Still no go. Please help!

don't know how long you tried but if you run (or your friend)out of gas the very first thing to do is not try and start it but turn the key to the run position five to seven times to reprime the fuel pump and let it pull the fuel from the tank to the front.wait two minutes and turn to start.this works well for the 8 and almost any car that runs out (fuel injected cars and trucks only)hope this gets you on track.this is after you have put in three to five gallons.
