ran oil dry while driving
I ran my 04 Rx8 dry on oil while driving and i started to smell as if my clutch was burning, and then while i was in gear as i hit the gas it acted as if i was in neutral. I refilled the oil and still the clutch does not ingage. Do i just need to replace the clutch or is there a bigger problem here.

hopefully you didnt destroy your engine. How could you possibly run it dry, how long was the check oil signal on for?
And why would oil have anything to do with your clutch?

Then you more than likely need a new clutch, you probably burned it out, how long have you been driving stick? Only reason i ask is because usually new drivers rev the engine too high after shifting and you burn out the clutch really fast.

I think whats happening here is two different things that occurred at the same time. Or maybe they happened because of a failure of one of the items.
First off make sure the engine oil is full on the dipstick. Top it up and check it. Start the engine and shut it off after about 30 seconds and check it again in a couple of minutes. Verify that you don't have a dash warning light on.
Also check the level of the brake fluid. The right side of the reservoir is for the clutch master cylinder. You'll see a small section on the drivers side of the reservoir that holds the fluid for the clutch. It's all brake fluid. Make sure it's full. DOT3
Next look down below the engine oil filter at the engine oil pressure sensor. One inch round sensor, black and silver. Make sure it's OK and has a wire connected to it.
Check the engine oil pan to make sure the engine oil level sensor is plugged into the drivers side of the oil pan. And the wire connection is secure.
Sounds like the clutch is worn out to me.
