Quick question fixing handbrake

The piece of rubber that extends under the console infront of the handbrake has started to tear. I have absolutely no reason why since it seems there wouldn't be a lot of pressure on it haha... Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of any special glue I could buy that would work well for reattaching it... Since it isn't even visible unless the handbrake is pulled, I'm not as worried about looks as I am about just being sure that it works well to keep that together... Any suggestions?... Here is a pic of where the tear is...

Thanks

Superglue? Gorilla glue? Worst comes to worst that whole rubber handle pulls off and you can try to find one in a part out or ebay

Actually I didn't know that the rubber handle pulls off. I figured that replacing it would require replacing the whole handbrake assembly. Good to know.... Does anyone know if that rubber piece that is broken has any purpose other than just keeping there from being an open hole there when the brake is pulled?

Yeah but does it have any secondary purpose aside from that, since it is about 3 times longer than the hole it covers. Like is there anything that it covers or protects deeper in there with the extra 2 inches. (There has to be a really good phallic joke in there somewhere)...

Reason I'm asking... Hopefully I can mend it or keep it from breaking long enough to find a good solution. But if it does break all the way off, would it hurt anything to just cover the hole with something whenever I have the break pulled until I find a new one?

The original material was a stiff plastic that would snap at that same location. Mine was replaced under warranty by the rubbery one and it eventually tore at the same spot. I've not observed any ill effect in the two years since it tore through. Eventually, I'll mend it for cosmetic reasons but I don't have a garage or carport, so I only work on the car in fair weather, and only when my wife hasn't planned something else for our weekends. :-)
