Question about Engine Failure

Hi everyone! I just bought my RX8 on thursday this week. It's been beyond fun. Originally I had been pulled between - RX8, 350z, S2000. I drove the 350z first, then drove the 8.... then I knew. It came at an amazing price and I couldn't pass it up.

Now that i got all of that out of the way... i came across a thread when i was looking up engine oil to be used in the 8. The following site has been weighing on my mind since I read it. I wanted to get everyone elses input on this before I really start doubting my purchase. Please let me know.

There was some issues in the beggining and I dont care what people say .. 99% was driver error. redline the car at least once a week and check the oil every week. not a problem. the number one issue is that this car goes through more oil than others cause of the oil luvin rotary .. .. make sure you have oil!

also ... the 350z has the worst ballance in a sports car ive ever felt ... even worse than the lan evos.

this can is designed to be loved ... just take it easy in the rain if your on stockers. You will also need winter tires.

Now if your complain is season matched tires and gas .. ok ... but especially with the new flash that came out (increases the oil on the apex seal) engines will last much much longer. Really the only ones effected were back in 04 / 05. its 08 ... dont worry

as far as oil ... use 5w30 in the summer .. thats all those people in that forum were talking about.

I didn't buy the car new.... just feels/is pretty new.

Soo... you think i'm still okay? Also the dealer says they use 5w20... should i go somewhere else and make sure it is 5w30..... i was reading through most of the "cumulative synthetic battle"..... but i'm more concerned about actual oil weight than trying to do synthetics (won't be using).

The 350z was quick in a straight line, but it was numb when on twisties... I didn't feel the same response and gradual loss of gripping with it... It seemed almost like you could lose it at anytime... BAM you are off the road!

I asked my dealer to put in 5w30. He said Mazda recommends 5w20, why would I want to switch? I said Mazda only does this to try to meet Fed emissions in the US. The rest of the world Mazda recommends 5w30. He said OK. Got the MSP-16 done also.

You will do fine.

Read the stickies. And get the new TSB done that re-flashes the car. It's free.

Welcome to the club.
