We did that the first day. Let it sit for awhile then tried starting it. It didn't work, that's why I suspected it was the starter.

But I would like to figure out why my car cut off while running.

Taking a noob under your wing every couple of weeks is what most will do. We have all been there at one point. However, it took 3 pages for us to find out his engine doesn't turn over when trying to jump it and he has known this all along. We would ask a question and his responses were as helpful as "I like puppies"

I honestly didn't know the difference between "turning over" and "starting", I just thought they meant the same thing.

I do appreciate the help thats been given though.

Im sorry, I had to go back and read cause I missed your question...The battery hasn't been replaced since I got the car. I was going to replace the battery but they tested it and they told me it was still good.

how many miles are on the car? just cause they tested it doesnt mean they tested it properly. to properly test a battery you have to put it under load, i.e. turn on the headlights and then test the battery.

Ohh, that's what you meant by load. No they didn't test it like that at all. The car now has a little over 84,000 miles.

May be the original battery, so you may want to try and replace that first. If thats not the prob, you can always take the battery back. And it doesn't hurt to have a fresh battery. If we ever say anything you don't understand, let us know. If you are afraid to ask cause you might get burned, just PM me or whoever is asking.

Its probablly not the battery because he said he cannot jump start the car. He would be able to jump start or at least get some life out of the car even if th ebattery was shitting the bed. Although, I do agree you need a ne battery. You want something with HIGH CCA(Cold Crank Amps). You can grab a yellow or red top optima at most places and they work well.

So, battery and alternator are still in question due to the lack of testing under load and the starter is also in question. Hope you figure it out.

OP, check 1 thing for me. Check how solid the connections are for the battery cables on the battery terminals.

They corrode over time, and if they corrode far enough, then you can actually get a shrinking diameter of the terminal, and it begins to lose contact with the battery, vibration breaking the connection. I had this on my first car, and it would randomly turn off while driving occasionally, sometimes have trouble starting it, etc... I cleaned and tightened the terminal after realizing it was loose, and I had no more trouble.

It fits what you are describing, although your descriptions could be more precise
