i have an 07 RX8, just rolled 40K, the steering is no more lol. after cleaing all connectors, stillnothgin. so $175 later from the dealer to look at it, they tell me the wiring is grounding out somewhere. a new harness is needed and its 2700, that i need to buy trhe complete harness. i found the steering harness and number off of here and found one at a different local mazda dealer, which the first dealer told me didnt exist lol. this part is $150 (canadian), before i buy this, what really are the chances of this solving my issues? i read alot about people soldering the lines together, how well does that work? like WTF pretty sure steering is kind of important, if this is an issue, y are there no recalls????

disconnecting the battery isn't really fixing the problem, it may even be resetting the EPS position sensor which needs to be relearned each time you disconnect the battery by turning the wheel to the right lock then left lock with the key on, turn the key off then start the car.

if the power steering is still failing then you usually have 1 of 3 problems.

weak battery or faulty battery connections
loose connections at the EPS harness to the rack/sensor
failing rack angle sensor/rack itself
