Power Problems

I suddenly started having a power problem.
It idles fine.
But it feels like a "dropped cylinder" power wise and how it makes exhaust tone sound. (yes I know the 8 has no cylinders). Basically it just doesnt want to get out of its own way. It used to have a decent hit up above 5k rpm, now its flat..

The only thing I can think of is Last Friday i was idling a lot in a parking lot and when I went to restart the car after parking it, it didn't want to start like it was flooded. Since then have had no hard starting issues.

05' Manual. All stock with 48K miles.

The dealer did replace one of the coils a few months back. I have been running Royal Purple 5w30 for 12K miles now (4 oil changes) without issue. So dont think its the oil.

Am i going to hurt the engine driving it for a few days (its my daily driver) until the weekend when I have time to take it in or trouble shoot it myself.

No check engine lights.
Yes they only replaced one coil... from what everyone says about coils figured might not be bad idea to replace them all.
I changed the plugs when I bought the car about 15K miles ago.
No weird smells.

It runs and drives fine except that it feel like its about 30% or so down on power.

Hmmm... considering what dealer wants for coils 54 ea. might as well get the upgraded coil kit from BHR... Too bad I cant get a set same day....
UNless anyone local has a set they dont need ?
gonna try letting it idle and pulling one plug wire at a time to see if I can pin point it to a bad coil, in the meantime.

OK now its popping under deceleration.
If I blip the throttle lightly to about 3K rpm as the engine slows it pops. Kinda sounds like a lean misfire used to sound on old carburetor bikes with low speed circuit set too lean, on deceleration.

Any thoughts? Does this still sound like coils? Gonna go pull plugs and see how they look...

So I measured the coils with ohm meter.
I did the test as Jedi posted instructions in another thread.
Getting weird results though...

according the the table here.
http://www.finishlineperformance.com...16-07-1793.pdf

when measuring connector b-c. with the bottom of the coil toward me and the plug wire cap away it reads 2.4Mohm. If I spin it around so the plug wire cap is facing me I get infiity.
The other leads test normally either way.
All the coils are this way.... Im confused.

Also curious.
Looking at MAF and my throttle body.
The throttle body is VERY dirty, almost like oil that collected dirt.
I can literally scrape it out of it i I push the butterfly open....
It looks like the oil is coming from the oil filler overflow tube.

OK about my wierd reading...

There is a diode in the coil. between b-c... so polarity of your probes matters....

got new coils wires plugs and air filter. wish me luck.

Thanks.
Of course now when pulling wheel off. Found that the shop I bought my rims from (need4speed) cross threaded one of my front lugs/studs. argggg
I def dont have time to deal with replacing wheel stud today. hopefully 4 lugs will work until I can take it somewhere tomorrow hopefully as lunch time thing... already took today off. I'll have to take it really easy. Not good timing considering I need to see If my power issues are good after work...

Well it runs great again. I never knew it could idle so smooth. Power is back

I just wish I knew I needed a front wheel stud before I went to mazdatrix this morning... no one up here has them in stock. And nobody can replace it for me today.

Wonder how dangerous it will be to drive with 1 lug nut missing on my drivers front? for a couple days until I can get one form dealer on Sat. I drive about 60 miles (round trip) on freeway every day.

Has anyone tried using a big *** c-clamp and a deep socket to remove/install a wheel stud on the 8?
Dont really want to hammer on it to get it out...

Also anyone have a single spline drive lug they want to get rid of?

Dont want to have to buy a whole set to get 1...

Yeah it's true that you'll be fine with one nut missing for a few days but don't make it a habit.
