Power loss. Help
Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find the post that showed you how to check to see if your coils are burnt. I have SEARCHED several times with no luck ...Maybe if I describe what's going on someone can help me decide if that is even the problem... My 8 has flooded two times. Both times I just took the plugs out and cleaned them to get my car to start again( Didnt' have time to take it in to have Mazda to do it) So when I started losing power I just figured it was bc of the plugs being foul. When I did finally take it to Mazda and complained about loss of power they just said it was bc I needed my 30,000 mile service HOWEVER, I changed the plugs today and it seemed to help the responsiveness of the car, but not the lack of power...especially below 4,500 RPM's Does anyone have any idea what could be going on? BTW I am not getting a CEL and gas milage is bad but not much worse than it always has been. Thanks alot!
If I were to take a pic of the coils could someone tell if there were good on here???

Since you flooded the car twice, the catalytic converter is probably toast. Do a search and you will see some pics of a typical trashed cat and the effect on the car performance. It's not that uncommon, particularly if a car has been flooded.

Thanks alot guys...I'm out of town. I'll check my coils as soon as I get home. As far as the Cat is concerned. I had it off for a for a couple months since I was running stage 2 CZ and it just sat in my bedroom. Once I took off the CZ I no longer needed the midpipe so I put my cat back on ( it midpipe was loud I needed to take my 8 in for Mazda service. Would be cat being off like that cause problems? Just a thought. Thanks for your help!

Hmmm I need to start a bunch of new threads using the word "coil" :P CZ can burn your coil for sure.. Get the service manual if you can, it shows you how to test your coil pack.. usually if you just pull them off you can see burnt spots on the back.. but there's a test you can do with a multimeter/ohmmeter similar to testing a transistor.. I think i posted the test in my other thread.
Who'da thunkded there'd be useful info in one of my threads!!??

Thanks a lot guy I did find your thread and it was very useful. I'm going to Check my coils when I get home! Strange thing is that when I search "coil" or "burnt coil" it never came up with your threads. Only when I do an advanced search and put your SN in did it work...0h well, all that matters is that I found it. Thanks again for all your help! I hope this is it. I'm tired of driving a sllloooowwww 8!

there is a way to eliminate the coils as a problem
5. Is a strong blue spark visible at each disconnected high-tension lead while cranking the engine?
Yes
Inspect for the following:
*
Spark plugs malfunction
*
Eccentric shaft position sensor is improperly installed.
*
Pulse wheel damaged on eccentric shaft
*
Open or short circuit on eccentric shaft position sensor
*
Open or short circuit between eccentric shaft position sensor and PCM terminal 2U or 2X
Repair or replace the malfunctioning parts.
If normal, go to the next step.
No
Inspect for the following:
*
High-tension leads
*
Ignition coils and connectors

Just a thought...I have a K& N Intake. Could the powerloss below 4K be something to do with me not having it on correctly??? (I didn't have instructions) Maybe one of the vacum hoses is not in the right spot or I have two of them switched??? I'm taking my car in next tuesday to have to coils checked.... Any help would be appreciated....thanks again guys!
