Sounds like a clogged/bad catalytic converter. However, did you check your coolant level? It could be overheating as well.

First of all you have an 04 which is Series I and you post on series II. Second please give us some more info on the car: miles (you say something about 80 miles but does not make any sense to me), maintenance, coils, plugs, wires (how many miles on them) would be a good start. Further, are there any mods to the car (a CAI maybe)? Did this happen after you washed the car? Did you do a machine wash?

To be honest idk if is serie l or ll it got 80.000 mileage about the other info idk the person than sell it told me that he took the car to service 50,000 miles ago.. (but he didn't used the car to much cuz he has 3 more cars) and yeah this happened after I washed it but I just washed the exterior... Sorry it's all I know I have been with this. Car like 3 days so I'm still learning about mazda motora

If it's an '04 it is definitely a Series I.

Hard to tell you with the info provided whether it was just random or a minor issue or a severe issue. Do you have a check engine light on? Things you could start looking are cat, plugs, coils, dirty or wet maf, air filter. I have seen some other people have similar issues with automatic but don't remember if they sorted out the cause.

No I don't have any light on... I was thinking take the car for a oil change and a service if it needs since it's new for me I think I need to start with the records but Idk how expensive that may be

The first thing I would suggest you do since you are at the 80,000 mile mark is to check the cat. The cat has an 8 year/80000 mile warranty. Try to find as many records as you can from the previous owner so you know what has been done on the car. Maybe the dealership could give you some info on maintenance by running the VIN (it depends whether the previous owner was using a Mazda dealer or not).

Did he refer to driving cycles? A driving cycle is start the car, warm up, turn off the car. I am pretty sure this has nothing to do in your case. Most of the times we talk about driving cycles is when the battery is disconnected (or when a battery is changed). In this case the computer needs 3-4 driving cycles to relearn its fuel trims. Until the car re-learns the trims you experience unstable idle and engine stalling.

I feel your issue was just random. However, try to get as much info as you can on what has been done on the car. More than likely you need to change plugs, coils, wires, air filter, battery. I would also see if the engine has been decarboned.

Keep an eye on it and start reading as much as you can on this forum. There is ton of information that will definitely help you understand our engine, maintain it and treat it the right way, diagnose problems, and find solutions.

And is that really bad? Clogged /bad cat? How expensive may it be? About the coolant I did. T check I just check the oil, brake fluid.. I haven't use it Cuz I haven't a insurance but I have one now so. I'll drive it to see how runs and i don't think it was a overheat cuz I haven't any light on
