P0610 - PCM fault (but my car is fine?)
Hey guys, this is a repost from the Australia forum, just though you guys over here at techs might have some knowledge on the issue..
The other day i noticed a CEL light which had come on but switched off but come on again. Took her into Mazda and they told me it was throwing a P0610 code but told me there was a loose connector and hopefully that solved the problem, and if the light came on again, i probabaly had a faulty PCM.
Lo and behold the light came back and they said they rang Mazda Technical and concluded i have a faulty PCM. They have been quite helpful in helping me out and suggested they could have the PCM repaired instead of replaced at a cheaper cost.
My question is though, my car is driving fine, bar the light she is better than ever, and I am reluctant to spend more money to fix something that may not ever become an issue? Or at least hold out for a while until I have more money to fix it.
What risks am i taking if i continue to drive? And why isn't the car showing any signs of fault if the PCM which controls the engine etc is faulty?

The Mazda tech told me a few diodes were blown and that it would need replacing. I doubt they would have missed a bad harness when they were diagnosing it.
But the car still drives fine and until I can figure out what caused the problem putting a new PCM in will just blow it again i think.
Computer parts generally don't wear and tear so i think i should be fine driving until i find the cause of the PCM failure? Or maybe, if the car drives well i may not even need to replace it at all?
Any thoughts?
