Do you think this setup would make even the Koyo rads cool the RX-8 on the track?

probably

is that your car ?

Jedi54 11-25-2009 02:50 PM

I have solved the overheating problem for our cars, honestly.
I showed it to MM and Easy when they were out here last week and I believe Easy has a picture of my concept.

Stay tuned...

darnellm 11-25-2009 02:52 PM

Yes that is my car.
I tried three different rads before I had the ducting work performed.
Last rad was a Ron Davis and it was the worst one that I tried!

Jedi54 11-25-2009 02:56 PM

darnellm: Ron DAvis was the worst? wow, they usually make good stuff, that's a bit surprising.
why was it the worst? quality? fitment? inefficient cooling?

what other Rads have you tried?

9krpmrx8 11-25-2009 03:00 PM

That duct work is nice, how hot does it get? What radiator are you running now?

darnellm 11-25-2009 03:07 PM

The first Ron Davis rad I received had a nice three inch core but did not have the bosses for mounting the fans and the condenser. I returned that one (without installing) when I was assured that they would send me one with the same core thickness with the mounting bosses attached. The one they sent back had a standard thickness core and I tracked it on two separate occasions and imo it's cooling efficiency was worst than the stock rad. Stock, Koyo and Ron Davis are the rads that I have tried.

9krpmrx8, based on my Defi gauges I see 110 C (230 F) water temps, no problems on the street.

You mean max temps on the track right?

Oh yeah, that looks like a simple install. I'll knock that out tomorrow.

MazdaManiac 11-25-2009 06:04 PM

We're experimenting with putting a pair of those on the oil coolers too because you can never get your oil cool enough and fans are the best way to do that!

Brettus 11-25-2009 07:13 PM

Yes on the track only, I bring it in when I see those temps

ASH8 11-25-2009 07:45 PM

OC Fans are the best for Cooling your Oil while at lights/stopped, but I have also shown opening up the rear splash shield vents (more air flow volume) has also greatly improved oil cooling at the Oil Coolers at least.

As 'madcow' reported he finds his oil is not getting Hot enough at 50 F with both his rear OC Plash Shields removed/missing.
