Question Oil in Air Filter ?????

I have a 2004 RX-8, Just wanted to ask some fellow owners a couple of questions. Has anyone had problems with a rough idle condition? And also the engine is puking up oil through the intake and spattering the air filter? I also had a problem of no compression in the rear rotor, apparently a stuck apex value, any comments?

My dealer says that these things are normal, but every question I ask the dealer get's the "it's Normal" response. A t least until it is out of warranty.

there are several things that can cause a rough idle- it depends on what you call rough. most likely is from the oil or the compression problem. do you havea AT or 6MT?

It's a 6MT, the tach does not fluctuate but you can feel it in the seat. I just hope the no compression problem did not cause internal engine problems !

I had an oil in the air box issue do to a leak in one of the oil cooler lines. Do you have any oil streaks on your front wheels?

people that have had idle issues could actually see the tach move. yours sounds minimal and is probably related to a dirty MAFS from the oil in the airbox. they should clean your mafs- what did they do for the compression problem?

They removed the plugs, poured oil in the cylinders and got the valve loosened up. Seams OK now but I'm not sure if I'm getting 100% performance oput of the engine.

I'll take a look for oil streaks on the front wheels.

Could it be that the dealer over filled the engine when they did the scheduled oil changes. On the way home from the dealer, I had some serious hesitation at about 6,000 then cleared itself out. This happened both times.

The oil thing can happen while driving also - did to me; car lost power, CEL came on for 20 seconds. Next time I checked the car for the cause of this, I found about 200 mL in the air intake... Nasty, nasty clean-up. The MAF sensor was fouled, hence the CEL...
See the pic for what the OEM filter looked like. Now I have a K&N drop-in replacement and a MS oil catch can. No more surprizes like that one !

That is exactly what my air filter looked like, I experienced the same hesitation between 6-7K, and the check engine light flashed for about 20 - 30 seconds. Did replacing the MAF fix it?

Hm, mine went off 1 week (200 miles) after the previous oil change. I cleaned everything, including the MAF. I do oil change myself now, I put an oil catch can, and I never seen it happening again.
