OEM Wheel Paint Question
OEM Wheel Paint Question
I have a question for anyone who has painted their OEM wheels. When sanding the wheel for prep should I sand all the way down to the bear metal or do I just need to sand through all the clearcoat?
I searched but couldnt find exactly this I know for polishing them you have to go down to the metal but I figured the new primer would hold on to whatever old primer is left behind just fine.

if you want to do it right you have to sand to bare metal. I have the powder coated charcoal grey ones and one needed repairs. Had to sand to bare metal than begin the 5 coat process. What are you planning to do to them?
Just planning on painting them black. Using primer and spray paint. I know it wont last as long as powder coat but I plan on changing out to aftermarket wheels next summer. So im just doing this to hold me over and I just wanted to have a little project to do. Right now I have most the clearcoat and paint sanded. Its just a lot more work to get through to the bare metal.
