Was any work done on your car recently?
Did anything unusual happen to it?
Is the snapping sound heard as the engine turns over? or does it happen as you turn the key?

Try and jump it and see if that helps....

Do the lights go off when you try and start the car?
Check the battery terminals, remove the cables and clean them with a wire brush.
Should solve the problem.

did you give it a minute to charge your batts? you may have flooded your car in the process of trying to start it earlier. if you have a bad connection even juming it wont work. how old is your car/battery? are the battery cables loose? electrical gremlins suck. it takes a little patience some times to track down the problem. do you have a volt meter? if so check you volts on your battery. did you use another car to jump it or just a battery charger? if you used another car did their alternator sound like it was kicking up when you tried to start your car?

if you used another car, your cables are good, you made good connection to both batteries, AND all of your connections are good on your car the other alternator should have given some indication of having your car draw off of it. It should click, the other cars lights dim breifly, something. A starter solenoid will keep a car with a good battery from starting, by just clicking or nothing at all. what do your interior lights do when you try to start it. do they dim/go away. can you turn your headlights on? do they look normal? when was the last time you drove/cranked your car? I know this sucks I've been there with other vehicles last question dont get pissed do you have gas in your car?

its gotta be your battery.. mine did this to me just a couple of days ago.. i had to leave the jumper cables connected to my car for about 10 minutes for it to completely charge off of another car before i could get it started... i had the same simptoms and it was the battery. in my case anyways.. i had left my trunk open for a couple of days because i was installing a sound system.

lol....prozach...yes i do have gas....and it 94 octane....yes 94...

The last time i cranked the car was yesterday night....it was a cold start....but i left it running for a minute or so before i switched it off......it has been working fine...never seen this problem before or any signs of a weak battery.....Drive everyday....

I did switch on the headlights before, i jumped the car and the headlight came on fine.....

It may be flooded...but it should turn over even if it is....go back to the battery/cables as the source of the problem...your buddies DVM is a good place to start

One minuye is not long enough.

Usually you have to wait for 10 minutes before you attempt to start it, if the battery is completely dead.

Check the battery connections! Remove the cables and clean them.
Or the positive wire on the starter is loose. Bad ground connection somewhere.
How is he gonna flood it if it won't turn over?
